Department Summary

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of North Texas System College of Pharmacy (UNT-SCP) will contribute to the development of the educational, research, and service programs of the Department. The faculty will report to the Chair of the Department. The faculty of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences will provide expertise toward the basic sciences side of the pharmaceutical sciences such as pharmaceutical discovery, formulation, and delivery. The Pharmaceutical Sciences Department at the UNT System College of Pharmacy is located at the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) in Fort Worth. Ranked among the top 50 medical schools for seven consecutive years, UNT Health is a 33-acre graduate school located in the city's Cultural District with a local economic impact of $500 million annually. The UNT System College of Pharmacy is the first pharmacy school in Texas located on an academic health science center campus. Researchers benefit from strong interdisciplinary partnerships with other departments at UNT Health and with the robust pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and clinical trial industries present in the DFW area. Position Overview

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the System College of Pharmacy (SCP) of UNT Health Fort Worth is seeking to hire a dynamic, innovative tenure-track or tenured Assistant-Associate-Full Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences with a background in Toxicology, Pharmacology, or Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics. The successful applicant will report to the Chair of the Department and will contribute to the development of the educational, research, and service programs of the College of Pharmacy. The successful applicant will provide expertise in teaching the foundational science aspects of the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum in areas such as toxicology, pharmacology, and drug metabolism/pharmacokinetics. Candidates with background or expertise in immunology are of particular interest. The successful applicant will also conduct extramurally funded research and provide instruction and training to students and trainees through teaching in graduate educational programs and mentoring in research. Competitive lab start-up funding is available, and the faculty member will have access to outstanding departmental and institutional core facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A PhD and research experience in Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Toxicology, or a related discipline.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Grant-writing proficiency: Track record of securing extramural funding from federal agencies such as the NIH, foundations, or industry, with experience managing research budgets.
  • Publication record: High-impact publications in peer-reviewed research journals, demonstrating contributions to advancing therapeutic strategies.
  • Lab management: Capacity to lead an independent research program while mentoring graduate students, postdocs, and professional (PharmD) students.
  • Curriculum development: Skill in designing courses that integrate research insights, case studies, and clinical applications.
  • Assessment design: Ability to create evaluations that measure theoretical knowledge, experimental skills, and critical thinking.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A track record of scholarly excellence as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and/or funding awards in the field of toxicology, pharmacology, or drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics.
  • Teaching experience in a graduate or professional program. Experience teaching immunology would be an asset.

Job Duties

  • Contribute to a culture of scholarly excellence within the Department through research that ensures that the faculty member remains on the cutting edge of their chosen areas of research and scholarly activity relevant to the future of pharmacy.
  • Implement and improve the Doctor of Pharmacy, the Master of Science in Drug Discovery and Development, and the PhD in pharmaceutical sciences curriculums as they relate to the basic pharmaceutical sciences components of professional pharmacy and research education.
  • Contribute to service efforts that enhance the quality of pharmacy and graduate education and research in Texas and nationwide.
