Position Summary
Dispensing prescription medications in a high volume pharmacy. Provides a high level of member service.
Job Duties
  • Dispenses prescription medications, measures and counts medication into appropriate containers.
  • Labels prescriptions and applies appropriate warning stickers.
  • Verifies prescriptions and refills with physicians by phone. Selects substitutions when necessary.
  • Obtains patient medical history and maintains confidential computer records.
  • Checks prescriptions and over the counter medications for drug interactions.
  • Counsels customers on proper medication usage. Provides prompt and courteous customer service. Answers customer questions about over-the-counter medication and product location. Addresses other customer concerns including insurance issues. Preserves customer confidentiality.
  • Assists in perpetual inventory of Schedule II to V controlled substances. Participates in twice yearly inventory of Department 92 and 93. Meets proper department production, record keeping, and product storage procedures and standards. Follows safety and security procedures.
  • Assists with counter duties as necessary.
  • Executes proper Central Fill and DUR functions.
  • Delivers immunizations.
  • Approves and submits orders for equipment and supplies. Orders products using a computer system. Coordinates proper maintenance and repairs for machinery and equipment.
  • May be required to act as Pharmacist-in-Charge during part of shift, when Pharmacy Manager is not present: Acts as point of contact for regulatory, legal, third party insurance companies, and audit situations; monitors pharmacy to ensure complete legal compliance; supervises Pharmacy Technicians and Assistants.
  • Ensures proper cleanup and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Ability to operate vehicles, equipment or machinery.
  • Assists with department duties as necessary.
  • Assists in other departments of the warehouse as necessary.
