Job description

Phantom Works Senior Systems Engineering Manager

Boeing Phantom Works is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Systems Engineering Manager (Level L) to provide technical leadership, people leadership, and execution support across our St. Charles, MO.

In this role, you will lead a team of approximately 15 Systems Engineering employees supporting a diverse portfolio of Phantom Works programs. You will help develop engineering talent, align staffing to program needs, strengthen cross-site collaboration, and ensure the team is positioned to deliver high-quality systems engineering solutions in support of Phantom Works mission needs.

This is a dynamic opportunity for a leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys building strong teams, and can balance strategic workforce planning with day-to-day execution.

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of approximately 15-20 Systems Engineering employees supporting Phantom Works programs across the St. Louis and St. Charles sites.
  • Provide day-to-day people leadership, including coaching, performance management, development planning, and succession planning.
  • Partner with program and functional leaders to align staffing, workforce planning, and resource allocation with business and mission needs.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, retention, and skill development to build a strong and adaptable systems engineering team.
  • Coordinate team priorities and manage workload across multiple programs to ensure execution quality and timely delivery.
  • Foster collaboration across sites, programs, and technical disciplines to improve communication, consistency, and engineering effectiveness.
  • Identify capability gaps and drive improvements in team processes, organization, and execution.
  • Communicate effectively with employees, peers, and leadership to build trust, accountability, and alignment.

Travel may be required up to 10% of the time; Domestically and/or internationally depending on business needs.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, chemistry or related technical degree.
  • 10+ years of relevant engineering or technical experience.
  • Experience in Systems Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience, which may include formal management, team leadership, or cross-functional leadership responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

  • Prior formal management experience leading an engineering team.
  • Experience leading a team of engineers in a multi-program, multi-site environment.
  • Experience supporting Phantom Works, advanced development, or defense/aerospace programs.
  • Strong interpersonal, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Experience with staffing, workforce planning, resource management, or talent development.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering practices such as requirements, architecture, integration, verification, validation, or technical reviews.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence leaders and build trust across organizational boundaries.
