Our client, a growing personal care manufacturer, is looking for a skilled Buyer II to join their team in Alameda County, CA!
Job type: 4-6-month contract (possible extension)
Pay rate: $40-$50/hr. DOE
Schedule: M-F; 7am-3:30pm (Hours may vary)

Job Summary
The Buyer II is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing raw materials, packaging components, equipment, parts, and supplies to support company operations and manufacturing requirements. This position works closely with suppliers, internal departments, and cross-functional teams to ensure materials are available at the right quality, quantity, cost, and time.
Key Responsibilities
- Source and purchase raw materials, packaging components, equipment, parts, and supplies while ensuring optimal cost, quality, and delivery performance.
- Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, including local vendors and multinational suppliers, to support business needs.
- Participate in cross-functional teams to identify sourcing opportunities, implement purchasing strategies, and manage supplier agreements.
- Review and analyze MRP requirements weekly to determine purchasing needs and initiate purchase orders based on production schedules, inventory levels, and demand requirements.
- Generate, update, and expedite purchase orders to ensure timely delivery of materials and avoid production delays.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, and contract terms to achieve the best value for the company.
- Communicate regularly with Production Planning, Production, Inventory Control, Quality Control, IT, Finance, and other departments to support manufacturing operations.
- Coordinate with suppliers and internal teams to resolve issues related to missing documentation, non-conforming materials, specification discrepancies, and receiving issues.
- Review manufacturing schedules and adjust material orders as needed to support changing production requirements.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records, including purchase orders, specifications, supplier documentation, packing lists, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Certificates of Analysis (CoAs), and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Support inventory management activities by monitoring material availability, shortages, and supply risks.
- Work with shipping and logistics partners to ensure timely delivery of purchased materials.
- Assist with the purchasing closeout process by coordinating with Finance, Shipping & Receiving, and other departments.
- Research new materials, suppliers, and equipment while analyzing costs and developing pricing strategies.
Qualifications
- Associate degree or bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations, or a related field preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in procurement, purchasing, materials planning, or supply chain operations required.
- Experience supporting manufacturing environments preferred, particularly in cosmetic, food, pharmaceutical, or regulated industries.
- Strong knowledge of purchasing processes, supplier management, inventory control, and materials requirements planning (MRP).
- Experience working with ERP systems such as Oracle, SAP, or similar platforms.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis, reporting, and spreadsheet management.
- Knowledge of cGMP practices and manufacturing process flow preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments and with external suppliers.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects independently.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
