Description:
Drivers license required for submission.
Candidates must be outside a 50-mile radius of the facility.
Previous permanent candidates must have been gone for 2 years.
Previous travelers present for one full year must also have been gone for 2 years.
Individual unit requirements apply.
Charge experience is mandatory.
Required travel experience is at least 1 year.
The unit has 20 beds, all private rooms.
Nurse to patient ratio is 1:5 for telemetry patients and 1:3-4 for stepdown patients.
The average number of patients seen or admitted can vary from 1-2 discharges to 10.
Common diagnoses include telemetry, post catheterization, and medical/surgical with telemetry monitoring needs, as well as respiratory difficulties.
Nurses are responsible for understanding and verifying tele strip interpretation.
One charge nurse is designated for the unit, and with full staffing, the charge nurse will not be involved in patient care.
Support staff includes 2 PCTs for 20 beds, assisting with patient care and documentation.
Cardiac monitoring includes both hardwired and portable equipment.
A unit-based pharmacist is available 5 days a week during the day shift.
Nurses can reconstitute antibiotics and manage medications requiring monitoring.
A respiratory therapist is present in the building 24/7; nurses may administer nebulizers and breathing treatments.
There are no ventilators on the unit; various oxygen delivery methods are utilized.
Physician coverage is provided by hospitalists 24/7.
Nurses place IVs and draw labs only from central lines when ordered.
The call-off process requires notifying the supervisor at least 2 hours before the shift.
Travelers may be asked to precept or assume charge duties based on comfort level.
Cancellation policy allows for 2 shifts per 13-week assignment for cancellations.
Self-scheduling is permitted for travelers based on unit needs.
Weekend and holiday coverage are required every other week.
Uniform is navy blue scrubs.
