What is a performance manager?

A performance manager seeks to create a system in which employees can perform at their best by creating clear goals and expectations. Rather than a traditional corporate system of employee appraisal and evaluation, performance managers try to communicate end goals and align each employee’s work with these aims. In this role, you may seek the development of benchmarks so that the company’s departments or groups can measure their progress concretely. This is an ongoing effort. Benchmarks and goals must change, so you must continually find new ways to measure progress and to inspire effort.

How does a performance manager typically collaborate with other departments to drive organizational success?

Performance Managers work closely with leaders and teams across departments—such as HR, operations, and finance—to align performance metrics with organizational goals. They often facilitate regular meetings to review progress, provide feedback, and identify areas for improvement. This role requires strong communication skills and the ability to translate data insights into actionable strategies that support both team development and business objectives. Effective collaboration ensures that performance initiatives are integrated and sustained throughout the organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a performance manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Performance Manager, you need a strong background in analytics, goal-setting frameworks, and organizational development, often supported by a degree in business or human resources. Familiarity with performance management systems, HR analytics tools, and project management software is typically required. Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities set standout candidates apart in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for driving employee productivity, aligning team objectives with organizational goals, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

What is the difference between Performance Manager vs Performance Analyst?

AspectPerformance ManagerPerformance Analyst

Both roles require similar educational backgrounds and are integral to organizational success, but they differ in scope and daily responsibilities.

Job description

Bevi is on a mission to transform how beverages are delivered and consumed. Our connected beverage platform eliminates the need for single-use bottles and cans, making it easy, fun, and sustainable to stay hydrated. As the category leader in IoT-enabled beverage technology, we're building a future where Bevi machines are everywhere people live, work, and connect. We've raised over $160M in venture capital, serve thousands of customers across the US, Canada, UK and Ireland, and we've been rapidly growing year over year, saving over 1 billion bottles from waste. In addition to driving hypergrowth with our current product line, Bevi is heavily investing in new product development.

We are seeking a Performance Marketing Manager to own and execute Bevi's demand generation engine day to day.

You'll lead the operational end-to-end engine behind Bevi's paid media program: building, launching, and optimizing campaigns directly in-platform across Meta, Google, TikTok, and LinkedIn, managing our performance marketing agency relationship, and ensuring every dollar invested ties back to pipeline. This role requires genuine hands-on fluency in the ad platforms themselves, not just agency oversight, you should be as comfortable building a campaign in Meta Ads Manager or Google Ads as you are briefing an agency partner. Reporting to the Head of Growth Marketing, you'll execute against the growth strategy and creative standards set at the leadership level, translate performance into channel and budget decisions, and represent demand generation in conversations with sales and cross-functional partners.

Your Day to Day In-Platform Campaign Execution & Agency Management
  • Build, launch, and manage campaigns directly in-platform across Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads, TikTok Ads Manager, and LinkedIn Campaign Manager, including audience setup, bid strategy, budget pacing, and creative rotation, not just directing an agency's execution
  • Own the day-to-day relationship with our Performance Marketing Agency across Meta, TikTok, Google, LinkedIn, and emerging channels, directing creative requests, campaign strategy, and output quality within the brand and creative standards set by the Head of Growth Marketing
  • Own the demand generation budget execution, including channel allocation, in-flight reallocation decisions, and quarterly planning grounded in CPA benchmarks, pipeline projections, and agency fee accounting
  • Run the test-and-learn roadmap across channels, deciding what gets scaled, what gets killed, and where the next experiment should go, within the experimentation priorities set by the Head of Growth Marketing
  • Build the data-backed business case for incremental investment using LTV:CAC by vertical and market, presenting recommendations to the Head of Growth Marketing
  • Serve as the day-to-day point of contact for sales leadership on demand generation performance, proactively flagging shifts in lead quality, channel mix, or pipeline impact before being asked
Campaign Oversight & Operational Excellence
  • Set UTM governance standards and oversee the tracking infrastructure across all active campaigns, ensuring attribution integrity at scale
  • Own conversion tracking setup and ongoing optimization across all ad platforms, including pixel configuration, conversion event mapping, and offline conversion imports for opportunities and bookings, troubleshooting with platform support as needed
  • Direct the build of automated nurture workflows and lead handoff processes, partnering with marketing operations on execution
  • Oversee landing page and form strategy across paid channels, ensuring brand consistency and conversion performance from ad click to form fill
  • Guide event-to-lead strategy, including how paid media supports field events and how leads from those events are captured and nurtured
Platform & Billing Management
  • Own day-to-day billing management across all ad platforms, including Meta, Google, TikTok, LinkedIn, and ChatGPT, ensuring accounts remain in good standing and spend is accurately tracked against budget
  • Monitor and reconcile platform spend against invoiced agency costs, flagging discrepancies before they impact monthly close
  • Maintain account-level access and platform health across all paid channels, escalating billing or account issues immediately to avoid campaign disruption
Performance Reporting & Insights
  • Own and build the monthly marketing performance narrative, synthesizing data from GA4, Salesforce, Snowflake, and Looker into clear, decision-ready insights for the Head of Growth Marketing and broader leadership
  • Build and maintain the paid media dashboard infrastructure in Looker Studio, ensuring it reflects the metrics that matter most to the business
  • Partner with RevOps and analytics to resolve attribution and data integrity issues before they reach executive reviews
  • Own lead quality tracking, identifying downstream signals like no-show rate and booking-to-opp conversion, and translating those signals into channel and budget decisions
Requirements
  • In-platform execution fluency: genuine hands-on experience building, launching, and optimizing campaigns directly within Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads, TikTok Ads Manager, and LinkedIn Campaign Manager, not solely experience directing an agency
  • Experience: 4–6 years of hands-on performance marketing experience, with at least 3 years personally building and managing paid media campaigns in-platform across multiple channels simultaneously, not solely through an agency intermediary
  • Demonstrated results: measurable impact on pipeline through paid media with specific examples of CAC improvement, conversion rate gains. Candidates should be able to walk through a budget reallocation decision they made and the outcome
  • Platform depth: direct, hands-on campaign management experience in at least two of the following: Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads, TikTok Ads Manager, LinkedIn Campaign Manager
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, Economics, or a related field preferred. MBA a plus but not required
  • Analytical mindset: comfortable building LTV:CAC models, constructing incremental budget cases, and presenting performance narratives to senior leadership without a data analyst doing the heavy lifting
  • Communication: strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to brief agencies, align with sales leadership, and present channel performance and budget recommendations to the Head of Growth Marketing and executive stakeholders
  • Collaborative style: proven ability to work cross-functionally with RevOps, sales, brand, and data teams in a fast-moving environment, comfortable operating in a role where influence matters as much as ownership
  • Ability to be in the office at least 2 days per week (Boston, MA)
Benefits:
  • Comprehensive medical, dental and vision insurance plans with BlueCross BlueShield, 95% paid by employer
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Flexible PTO plus 12 company holidays, and additional paid days for sick leave, etc
  • Generous fully paid parental leave for both birth parents and non-birth parents
  • Fully employer paid disability and life insurances
  • Wellness and fitness reimbursements
  • Monthly stipends for cell phone use and commuting costs
  • Onsite snacks, weekly catered lunch, and (of course) unlimited Bevi ... plus composting and terra-cycling, too
  • Happy hours, team-building events, bagel breakfasts, Values awards - and more.
Compensation Philosophy
  • Market-driven - We anchor pay decisions in real-time market data
  • Performance-based - We reward individual impact, not just tenure
  • Equitable - We ensure fairness across teams, roles, and demographics
  • Growth-focused - We invest in talent that scales with Bevi
