What is a performance manager?

A performance manager seeks to create a system in which employees can perform at their best by creating clear goals and expectations. Rather than a traditional corporate system of employee appraisal and evaluation, performance managers try to communicate end goals and align each employee’s work with these aims. In this role, you may seek the development of benchmarks so that the company’s departments or groups can measure their progress concretely. This is an ongoing effort. Benchmarks and goals must change, so you must continually find new ways to measure progress and to inspire effort.

How does a performance manager typically collaborate with other departments to drive organizational success?

Performance Managers work closely with leaders and teams across departments—such as HR, operations, and finance—to align performance metrics with organizational goals. They often facilitate regular meetings to review progress, provide feedback, and identify areas for improvement. This role requires strong communication skills and the ability to translate data insights into actionable strategies that support both team development and business objectives. Effective collaboration ensures that performance initiatives are integrated and sustained throughout the organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a performance manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Performance Manager, you need a strong background in analytics, goal-setting frameworks, and organizational development, often supported by a degree in business or human resources. Familiarity with performance management systems, HR analytics tools, and project management software is typically required. Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities set standout candidates apart in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for driving employee productivity, aligning team objectives with organizational goals, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Sales Performance Manager

Coach People. Build Confidence. Drive Results.

Do you get more satisfaction from helping others succeed than making the sale yourself?

If you're passionate about coaching, developing people, and creating winning teams, this could be the career you've been looking for.

As a Sales Performance Manager, you'll partner with operations and business leaders and to coach and develop rental sales teams across multiple airport locations. You'll spend your time where it matters most...on the rental counter, observing customer interactions, providing real-time coaching, role playing sales scenarios, facilitating engaging workshops, and helping agents build the confidence and skills that drive exceptional customer experiences while increasing ancillary revenue.

Every day brings something different. One day you may be coaching a new sales agent, the next you're leading a station workshop or partnering with local leaders to improve performance. You'll identify opportunities, reinforce best practices, introduce new sales initiatives, and help teams turn potential into results.

Success in this role isn't measured by the number of meetings you attend. It's measured by the people you develop, the relationships you build, and the results your teams achieve.

We're looking for someone who enjoys mentoring others, builds trust quickly, communicates effectively, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. You'll bring sales experience, coaching or training experience, strong problem-solving skills, and a passion for helping others grow.

Perks You'll Get:

This opportunity offers far more than a competitive salary. It provides the tools, support, and rewards to help you build a successful career while making a meaningful impact.

Your Total Compensation Package Includes

  • $65,000 starting base salary
  • 25% annual performance bonus opportunity
  • Company vehicle, including insurance and fuel
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan with company matching contributions
  • Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, and Disability Insurance
  • Flexible Spending Accounts and additional voluntary benefit options
  • Up to $270 per month in tax-free public transportation or parking benefits
  • Employee Assistance Program, including counseling, financial, and legal services
  • Employee discounts, including discounted Avis Budget Group vehicle purchases
  • Ongoing leadership development and professional training
  • Community involvement opportunities

Your compensation extends well beyond your base salary. When you factor in the annual bonus opportunity, company vehicle with insurance and fuel, retirement savings, comprehensive healthcare, and professional development, this role provides a highly competitive total rewards package.

The annual starting salary for this position is $65,000annually. Factors that may affect starting pay within this range include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's Degree plus at least 1 year of supervisory experience; OR Associate's Degree plus at least 2 years of supervisory experience; OR High School Diploma plus at least 4 years of supervisory experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of progressive sales experience in a customer-facing sales environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience coaching, mentoring, training, or developing sales professionals.
  • Strong understanding of customer service and sales principles.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • The ability to identify opportunities, solve problems, and execute practical solutions.
  • A valid driver's license and willingness to travel approximately 50% between assigned locations.

Who We Are:

Here at Avis Budget Group, you will be joining a team of 25,000 driven people, performing with purpose. Together, we're moving the future of transportation forward with our innovative, customer-focused solutions.
