The Harley-Davidson Motor Company Product Development Center (PDC) located in Wauwatosa, WI is home to the mantra - You dream it. We build it. Join our team as a  Powertrain Performance Engineer - Screamin' Eagle.

Job Summary

This engineering role is instrumental in delivering compliant HarleyDavidson and Screamin' Eagle products to the marketplace. The Design Engineer is responsible for the planning, execution, and delivery of powertrain performance products, ensuring all outcomes meet established quality, performance, and timing expectations. The primary focus of this position is the development of Screamin' Eagle tuning products in alignment with HarleyDavidson's project management methodology and build requirements. The role also supports the development of additional engine performance components and manages smaller project deliverables as needed. Success in this position requires extensive collaboration with Powertrain Engineering teams-including Calibration, Performance Development, Base Engine, Driveline, Intake, and Exhaust-as well as close coordination with test laboratories to achieve program goals.

Job Responsibilities
  • Applies fundamental engineering principles, including performing calculations, conducting analyses, and utilizing appropriate engineering tools.
  • Communicates effectively with stakeholders by clearly conveying information, asking relevant questions, and confirming mutual understanding.
  • Demonstrates strong project management skills, coordinating test resources, design teams, and supplier activities to meet program objectives.
  • Develops technical requirements and ensures product designs satisfy performance, quality, timing, cost, and regulatory targets.
  • Collaborates with crossfunctional teams to design, develop, and deliver powertrain components and systems from concept through production.
  • Maintains expertise in advanced design methods, analytical tools, materials, and testing techniques for powertrain performance products.
  • Diagnoses and resolves complex technical issues by applying innovative thinking and rigorous analytical methodologies.
  • Delivers optimized design solutions that balance performance, quality, weight, cost, and program timing.
  • Leads and supports DFMEAs and DVP&Rs to ensure robust design and validation processes.
  • Analyzes test data and drives resolution of validation findings across both internal and supplier-led testing activities.
  • Communicates project status, risks, key metrics, and recommendations clearly to crossfunctional partners and leadership.
  • Willing to travel as required throughout the project lifecycle.

Experience Requirements

Required

  • Typically requires a minimum of 3 years of related experience. 
  • Experience in the fundamentals of (ICE) internal combustion engine and powertrain operation.
  • Solid understanding of ICE performance, durability and emissions tradeoffs.
  • Demonstrated the ability to develop and follow a test plan to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Understanding of data acquisition systems and techniques through successful execution of projects.
  • Understanding of design and release controls as well as PPAP

Preference will be given to candidates that demonstrate they are able to:

  • Strong knowledge in the fundamentals of internal combustion engines.
  • Knowledge and experience of H-D and/or aftermarket motorcycle tuning products.
  • Motorcycle riding enthusiast.

The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
