What is a per diem remote insurance nurse?

A Per Diem Remote Insurance Nurse is a registered nurse who works on an as-needed basis for insurance companies, typically from a remote or home-based location. Their primary role involves reviewing medical records, conducting telephonic health assessments, and helping determine eligibility or coverage for insurance applicants or policyholders. This position offers flexibility in scheduling, as nurses can choose their shifts according to availability. The work is generally administrative and does not involve direct patient care, making it ideal for nurses seeking a non-clinical role. Remote insurance nurses use their clinical expertise to interpret medical information and ensure accurate insurance decisions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a per diem remote insurance nurse?

To thrive as a Per Diem Remote Insurance Nurse, you need a valid RN license, strong clinical assessment skills, and experience in case management or insurance reviews. Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR), telehealth platforms, and claims processing software is typically required. Excellent written communication, critical thinking, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for success in a remote and autonomous environment. These skills ensure accurate evaluations, clear documentation, and effective collaboration with insurance teams, supporting timely and high-quality patient care decisions.
