Job description

RK&K is seeking a self-motivated, capable engineer to lead a variety of natural gas projects that may include design, preparation of construction documents, project coordination, and construction management. This position affords you the opportunity to fully engage in solving complex problems, provide technical evaluation, and evaluate the costs and benefits of alternative solutions. Some travel required.
Essential Functions
  • Develop technically accurate, clean, and deliverable drawings
  • Write specifications, review submittals, coordinate project submissions, and communicate with clients
  • Responsible Charge- coordinate the preparation of multi-discipline drawing sets as required for assigned projects, including coordination with technical, administrative, and other design staff
  • Promote, utilize, and support quality assurance and quality control processes to improve the quality of deliverables and reduce design errors & omissions
  • Research and understand regulatory compliance AND client requirements for assigned projects
  • Assist project managers with design calculations, analysis, specification review, and cost estimates for project proposals
  • Participate in internal and client meetings, presentations, and plan reviews
  • Work directly with the owner, designer, project managers, and contractors on projects while expanding your capabilities

Required Skills and Experience
  • Minimum of 4 years of engineering experience, preferably in the natural gas and pipeline industry (Position within career ladder will take total experience into consideration)
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Civil preferred)
  • Engineer-in-Training license (preferably Maryland, D.C., or VA)
  • Ability to coordinate simultaneous tasks
  • Proficiency in communicating technical information
  • Knowledge of cathodic protection principles and practices
  • Familiarity with trenchless construction methods and requirements
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook)
  • Experience in AutoCAD/MicroStation

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Professional Engineering license (MD, DC, PA, VA preferred)
  • NACE CP1 or higher preferred
  • Natural gas distribution and/or transmission design
  • Knowledge of CFR Part 192 regulatory requirements
  • Knowledge of conventional construction methods and trenchless technologies
  • Natural gas facilities design (e.g. district regulator stations, gate stations, inline inspection facilities)
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/MicroStation preferred

Travel Requirements
Occasional travel as assigned either locally or extended distances; can be one or more nights away from home
