What is a per diem loan processor?

A Per Diem Loan Processor is a mortgage professional who works on a temporary or as-needed basis, often paid by the day or per file, rather than as a full-time salaried employee. Their main responsibility is to process loan applications, ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate, and coordinate with underwriters, applicants, and other parties involved in the mortgage process. This flexible position is ideal for those who prefer non-traditional work schedules or want to supplement their income. Per diem processors may work for mortgage lenders, banks, or third-party processing companies.

How does the workflow and collaboration differ for per diem loan processors compared to full-time processors?

Per Diem Loan Processors typically work on an as-needed basis, which means they may handle fluctuating workloads and step in during peak times or to cover staff absences. While they often work independently, they still collaborate closely with loan officers, underwriters, and other processing staff to ensure timely and accurate loan file completion. Communication is key, as per diem staff must quickly acclimate to each lender's systems and processes, making adaptability and strong organizational skills essential. This flexible arrangement can provide exposure to various lending environments and potentially lead to more consistent or permanent opportunities if desired.

Is a per diem loan processor a difficult job?

A per diem loan processor's job involves reviewing and processing loan documents, which requires attention to detail, organizational skills, and familiarity with loan software. The difficulty level depends on the complexity of loans handled and the individual's experience with financial procedures, but it generally involves routine tasks and standard office hours.

How does a per diem loan processor get paid?

A per diem loan processor is typically paid based on a daily rate or hourly wage for the days they work, often without benefits. Payment is usually processed through direct deposit or check, and compensation may vary depending on the employer and location.
