CNO Financial Group's IT Team is hiring a Sr. Cloud Infrastructure Architect to independently define and drive cloud architecture strategy and implementation roadmaps to enable secure, scalable, and highly automated cloud environments. This role is responsible for the design, governance, and evolution of enterprise cloud platforms across Azure and AWS, with a strong emphasis on Infrastructure as Code (IaC), standardized architecture patterns, and operational excellence. This position operates with significant autonomy and authority on complex assignments and leads enterprise initiatives focused on modernizing infrastructure, enforcing governance, and enabling consistent, policy-driven cloud delivery. The role partners across engineering, operations, cybersecurity, and business teams to deliver resilient, cost-effective, and scalable cloud solutions.
Core responsibilities and deliverables:
  • Design, govern, and evolve enterprise cloud platforms and foundational services, including cloud networking, identity, and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform), leveraging version-controlled CI/CD pipelines and automation to deliver secure, scalable, and standardized cloud solutions.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce enterprise cloud architecture roadmaps, standards, and governance frameworks that modernize legacy infrastructure into automated, scalable cloud-native environments while ensuring consistency, compliance, cost transparency, and operational efficiency.
  • Architect and oversee enterprise cloud platform services, including landing zones, subscription/account structures, identity and access management, DNS, and hybrid connectivity.
  • Partner with peer architects and technology leaders to ensure alignment across enterprise architecture domains and shared platform capabilities, while partnering to design and govern cloud networking architectures (including hub-and-spoke topology, transit networks, routing strategies, VPN connectivity, and firewall integration) across multiple regions.
  • Collaborate with engineering and application teams to define and review cloud solution architectures, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards, scalability requirements, and security policies. Work with 3rd party vendors and the Managed Services team to develop and implement technology-enabled roadmaps.
  • Identify, analyze, and recommend cloud technologies and platform capabilities based on business requirements, scalability needs, and cost considerations.
  • Establish and drive operational excellence practices, including monitoring, alerting, cost optimization, and platform lifecycle management to ensure reliability and performance.
  • Define and implement disaster recovery and resiliency strategies, including multi-region design patterns and high availability architectures.
  • Define and govern cloud financial management practices, including capacity planning, cost allocation, chargeback/showback models, reserved instance strategies, and optimization of cloud consumption.
  • Document all cloud architecture designs, standards, and processes, ensuring maintainability and knowledge transfer across teams.
  • Partner with Security Architecture and Engineering teams to establish secure-by-design cloud patterns, including network segmentation, privileged access management, encryption, vulnerability management, and regulatory compliance controls.
  • Train and mentor engineers and architects on cloud architecture standards, Infrastructure as Code practices, and platform engineering principles.

What you'll need (Minimum requirements):
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years of experience designing and implementing infrastructure or cloud solutions in some of the following disciplines: Cloud Architecture, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Cloud Networking and Connectivity, Identity and Access Management, Platform Engineering, DevOps / CI-CD Automation, Cloud-Hosted Virtual Desktops, Enterprise Architecture, Network Architecture, Server Architecture
  • Strong working knowledge of enterprise cloud platforms (Azure required; AWS preferred) and cloud architecture principles, including networking, identity, and platform services.
  • Strong knowledge of Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), including host pools, FSLogix, image management, autoscaling, networking, identity integration, and platform architecture.
  • Experience providing architectural oversight and governance for managed service providers, including review of solution designs, operational standards, service delivery practices, and technology roadmaps.

What will set you apart (Preferred experience):
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least two related industry certifications, including: Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert, AWS Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional), Terraform or DevOps-related certifications
  • 7 years of experience designing and implementing infrastructure or cloud solutions within Azure and in some the following disciplines: Cloud Architecture, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Cloud Networking and Connectivity, Identity and Access Management, Platform Engineering, DevOps / CI-CD Automation, Cloud-Hosted Virtual Desktops, Enterprise Architecture, Network Architecture, Server Architecture
  • Exposure to multiple, diverse technical configurations, technologies and processing environments.

Associates living within 60 miles of a corporate office (Carmel, IN or Chicago, IL) have access to work from that location as needed.
The stated pay range is based on a national average location. Actual salary is determined by factors including relevant work experience, skills and location. This position is also eligible for CNO's performance-based annual bonus program.

Pay Range: $130,500.00 - $195,700.00 Annual
