Job Title: Graduate Assistant (Grad Focus)

Department: Graduate Studies

Reports to: Dean of Graduate Studies

Position Type: Eighth-Time (5 hours/week)

Job Summary:

The Graduate Assistant (GA) will assist faculty and staff in Graduate Studies with various tasks related to research, teaching, and administrative support. The position offers graduate students the opportunity to gain professional experience while pursuing advanced studies. The GA will work closely with faculty members and staff to support departmental goals, foster academic engagement, and contribute to the overall success of departmental initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Course Design Support:Assist in maintaining accuracy and consistency across graduate-level courses in Canvas, while aiding implementation of the FALCONS model.
  • Graduate Studies Ambassador:Represent and promote Peirce at Lackawanna’s graduate programs by serving as a liaison between prospective students and the college, sharing their experiences and insights to support recruitment, orientation, and community engagement efforts.
  • Student Support Services & Academic Advising:Communicate with students and collaborate with Graduate Academic Advisors to ensure timely support for continued enrollment and financial aid needs.
  • Assisting in Event Execution: Support the planning and execution of various events such as graduate new student orientation and events (i.e., Elevate Series, CEOSpotlightand Instant Decision Day). This involves coordinating logistics, managing registrations, and ensuring smooth operations during the events.
  • Collaborating with Stakeholders: Work closely with faculty, staff, and the Graduate Student Association to organize events that align with the goals of the graduate studies programs.

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled/accepted in a graduate degree program at Lackawanna College
  • Strong academic standing
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting
  • Possessstrong organizational and time-management skills
  • In accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and institutional policies, you are required to:
  • Maintain Confidentiality: Ensure that all student records and related information are kept confidential and are not disclosed to unauthorized individuals.
  • Access on a Need-to-Know Basis: Use student information solely for the purposes of fulfilling your GA responsibilities.
  • Secure Handling: Store and transmit student data securely, following best practices to prevent unauthorized access or breaches.
  • Report Violations: Immediately report any suspected breaches of confidentiality or privacy to your supervising faculty member or the appropriate institutional office.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with MS Office, including Teams.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic academic environment.
