How much do pediatrics jobs pay per year?

As of Jul 14, 2026, the average yearly pay for pediatrics in the United States is $192,507.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $170,000.00 and $220,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some jobs in pediatrics?

Jobs in pediatrics include pediatricians, who diagnose and treat children's health issues, and pediatric nurse practitioners, who provide primary care under physician supervision. Other roles include pediatric nurses, medical assistants, and pediatric specialists such as pediatric cardiologists or neonatologists, often requiring relevant medical training and certifications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Pediatrician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Pediatrician, you need a medical degree, board certification in pediatrics, and strong clinical skills in diagnosing and treating childhood illnesses. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, pediatric diagnostic tools, and up-to-date vaccination protocols is essential. Exceptional communication skills, patience, and empathy are crucial for building trust with children and their families. These skills ensure accurate care, effective patient relationships, and optimal health outcomes for young patients.

What are the most common challenges pediatricians face when communicating with both young patients and their families?

Pediatricians often navigate the challenge of explaining complex medical information in ways that are understandable for both children and their caregivers. Building trust with young patients, who may be anxious or unable to articulate their symptoms, requires patience and creativity. Additionally, pediatricians must address parents' concerns, balancing empathy with clear guidance, especially when discussing sensitive diagnoses or treatment plans. Successful communication in this role involves active listening, cultural awareness, and adapting explanations to fit each family's needs.

What is the highest paid pediatric job?

The highest paid pediatric jobs are typically pediatric subspecialists such as pediatric cardiologists, pediatric intensivists, and pediatric anesthesiologists, who often earn significantly higher salaries due to specialized training and procedures. These roles usually require additional fellowship training and certification, and they work in hospital or specialized clinical settings.

What Are Different Careers in Pediatrics?

Different careers in pediatrics include a pediatric registered nurse or nurse practitioner, pediatric physician, and pediatric specialist, such as a pediatric oncologist. Pediatric nurses may prescribe medicine, perform screenings at schools or in a doctor’s office, and administer immunizations for childhood diseases, such as measles and mumps. Pediatric physicians, or pediatricians, have higher-level responsibilities, such as diagnosing infants and adolescents, discussing treatment options with parents and caregivers, and engaging in professional development work. Pediatric specialists typically focus on a particular subfield of pediatric medicine and work by referral from a pediatrician.

What are the different fields in pediatrics?

Pediatrics is a medical specialty focused on the health and development of infants, children, and adolescents. It includes various subspecialties such as pediatric cardiology, neonatology, pediatric endocrinology, pediatric neurology, pediatric infectious diseases, and pediatric emergency medicine, each requiring additional training and certification. Pediatricians often work in hospitals, clinics, or private practices, providing comprehensive care tailored to different age groups and health conditions.

What are pediatricians?

Pediatricians are medical doctors who specialize in the health and medical care of infants, children, and adolescents up to age 18. They are trained to diagnose and treat a wide range of childhood illnesses, from minor health problems to serious diseases. Pediatricians also provide preventive care, monitor growth and development, and guide parents on nutrition, safety, and emotional well-being. Their goal is to help children achieve optimal physical, mental, and social health throughout their developmental stages.

What is the highest paying job working with children?

The highest paying jobs working with children are often specialized medical roles such as pediatric surgeons and pediatric anesthesiologists, with salaries exceeding $200,000 annually. These positions require advanced medical training, board certification, and often involve working in hospitals or specialized clinics.

What is the difference between Pediatrics vs Family Medicine?

AspectPediatricsFamily Medicine

While both Pediatrics and Family Medicine require medical degrees and residency training, Pediatrics specializes in healthcare for children and adolescents, working primarily in pediatric clinics and hospitals. Family Medicine providers offer comprehensive care for patients of all ages, including children, adults, and seniors, often in primary care settings. The choice depends on whether you want to focus exclusively on pediatric health or provide broader family-centered care.
