Job description

Beacon Children's Hospital Pediatric Hematology Oncology is seeking a BC/BE Pediatric Hematologist to join a busy, community based pediatric hematology oncology practice in South Bend, Indiana. The physician will join a team of 2 board certified pediatric hematologist-oncologists and a nurse practitioner. The care team is supported by a highly experienced, committed nursing and administrative team. The program cares for infants, children, adolescents and young adults with blood disorders and cancers. The oncology component includes approximately 30-40 patients in active treatment at any given time and a large off therapy population. The practice sees approximately 200 new hematology referrals per year and cares for approximately 80 children with sickle cell disease and many children with chronic benign hematologic disorders. The physicians work in the outpatient clinic and cover an inpatient service along with support from a strong pediatric hospitalist team. Call is shared equally among the physicians. The program has a strong working relationship with regional academic centers and collaborates with these centers frequently when caring for patients. The position provides the opportunity to contribute to clinical program development and provide clinical care to children in a medically underserved area. We provide an opportunity to participate in limited medical student/resident education and clinical research. Working in close association with Riley Children's Health, Beacon's pediatric oncology physicians work hand-in-hand with their large team of doctors to provide every possible treatment option available.

Beacon Children's Hospital is the regions only designated children's hospital and cares for children with a wide variety of medical and surgical diagnoses from more than 20 referral hospitals throughout Southwestern Michigan and Northern Indiana. Our world-class team includes a complement of other pediatric subspecialties; those include neurology, anesthesiology, behavioral/developmental, child and adolescent psychiatry, pulmonology, infectious disease, gastroenterology, hematology oncology, and neurosurgery; as well as child life specialists, diabetic educators, dietitians and social workers. During 2017, we opened a new children's hospital - a $46 million effort 109 bed facility with 101,530 square feet, which is crucial to serving thousands of children and their families in a 22-county region.

Beacon Children's PICU is also an actively involved in several national multicenter quality improvement collaboratives like the Improving Pediatric Sepsis Outcomes (through the Children's Hospital Association) and the Solutions for Patient Safety (SPS) initiative.

Affiliation with Indiana University School of Medicine @ Notre Dame and Memorial Hospital Family Medicine Residency allows for teaching of residents, medical students and supervision of post-graduate trainees.
