About the Job
Summary of Position:
Assists and facilitates the admissions process of (AIDS) patients to the Gift of Peace. Serves as a liaison between patients the community and the Gift of Peace. Coordinates medical care and services for Gift of Peace Patients. Advocates for the patient and families to ensure medical needs are met. Promotes patient rights and enhances customer service and patient satisfaction. Interacts with Gift of Peace associates in a positive pleasant and professional manner to coordinate efficient patient flow through the medical practice.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Reviews patients to ensure appropriate admissions to the Gift of Peace. Assessment criteria include character financial resources and disease progression in preparation for discussion with clinical social worker and Medical Director of the Gift of Peace for evaluation.
  • Assists and facilitates the transfer of patients from area hospitals and referral sources to the Gift of Peace.
  • Establishes and maintains good working relationships with the sisters in charge of the Gift of Peace as well as area hospitals/referral sources.
  • Supports Social Worker and Division Chief for continuous case management of patients referred to the Gift of Peace by helping patients identify resources and recommending Social Worker to advise/counsel them on various issues such as Medicaid entitlements ADAP Forms and other related financial/personal concerns.
  • Facilitates and coordinates appointments for patients in various healthcare facilities.
  • Ensures adequate supplies such as diapers gloves chux etc. are maintained at Gift of Peace.
  • Ensures waste material is removed from Gift of Peace as scheduled.
  • Provides informal community education and public relations activities for Georgetown University Hospital and the Gift of Peace.
  • Keeps accurate and timely records of patients referred maintains all associated statistical data.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
Minimal Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree required (Bachelor's degree in a health care field preferred)
  • Minimum of 2 years in patient relations healthcare customer service or related field experience.
  • Experience working with chronically ill patients and their families is preferred.

  • Ability to identify and address obstacles to high-quality patient care and satisfaction;
  • Ability to diffuse stressful situations; well-developed listening interpretative and conciliation skills;
  • Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds;
  • Ability to demonstrate ethical behavior that inspires trust and exhibits honesty and integrity within the scope of daily activities;
  • Ability to think creatively and problem solve Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication skills Knowledge of medical terminology and sensitivity to terminal illnesses;
  • Ability to fill ADAP forms and other similar forms to access prescription coverage.
