To thrive as a PBM Implementation Specialist, you need a solid understanding of pharmacy benefit management, project management skills, and familiarity with healthcare regulations, often supported by a relevant bachelor’s degree. Experience with PBM software platforms, data integration tools, and possibly certifications like PMP are highly valued. Outstanding problem-solving, attention to detail, and strong communication skills set top performers apart in this role. These skills are essential for ensuring seamless implementation of PBM solutions, minimizing errors, and maintaining compliance in a complex, regulated environment.

What is a PBM Implementation specialist?

A PBM Implementation specialist is a professional who manages and oversees the process of integrating pharmacy benefit management (PBM) services for clients, such as health plans or employers. Their role involves coordinating system setups, benefit configurations, and data transfers to ensure accurate and efficient delivery of prescription drug benefits. They work closely with internal teams and clients to understand requirements, resolve issues, and ensure a smooth transition to PBM services. Strong communication, project management, and technical skills are essential in this role.

What are some common challenges faced during PBM implementation projects, and how can they be addressed?

One of the main challenges in PBM (Pharmacy Benefit Management) implementation is coordinating between multiple stakeholders, such as clients, vendors, and internal IT teams, to ensure accurate data integration and system configuration. This role often requires managing tight deadlines and rapidly resolving issues that arise during system testing and member migration. To address these challenges, strong project management skills, clear communication, and a proactive approach to identifying potential risks are essential. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and maintaining detailed documentation can also help ensure a smooth implementation process.

Job description

Who We Are:
Interra Health is a fast-growing healthcare technology company transforming how providers and patients navigate the prescription journey. Formed through the merger of DoseSpot, Arrive Health, and pVerify, Interra Health delivers trusted eligibility, real-time coverage and pricing insights, prescribing tools, and pharmacy transparency at the point of care—helping providers make informed decisions and patients access the right medications with greater clarity and affordability. Backed by strong market momentum and a bold vision for the future of connected care, Interra Health offers the chance to join an innovative, mission-driven team working at the intersection of software and healthcare to reduce friction, improve access, and make the healthcare experience better for everyone.

The Role:

Interra Health is looking for a Senior Account Manager, PBM Partnerships to own and grow our most strategically important PBM relationships. This is a high-ownership, high-visibility commercial role responsible for managing multimillion-dollar partnerships with leading pharmacy benefit managers — including organizations like Evernorth, Optum, CVS Caremark, Prime, Humana, and MedImpact.

You will operate at the intersection of commercial strategy, product, and operations, building executive-level relationships, driving contract outcomes, and developing multi-year account plans that expand Interra's footprint across the PBM landscape. This role demands deep domain expertise, sharp commercial instincts, and the presence to show up as a strategic partner — not a vendor — in every room you enter.

What you'll do:

  • Own a portfolio of large, complex PBM partnerships with significant revenue impact —managing the full account lifecycle from contract execution through renewal, expansion, and executive relationship development.

  • Develop and execute multi-year account plans that align partner goals with Interra revenue objectives, identifying whitespace opportunities across new use cases, populations, and distribution channels.

  • Lead high-stakes negotiations, QBRs, and strategic reviews independently — presenting to C-suite and VP-level stakeholders with confidence, credibility, and minimal reliance on internal escalation.

  • Build and maintain relationships across multiple levels of each PBM organization —spanning clinical, operations, product, commercial, and legal — while identifying and cultivating executive sponsors who can champion Interra's initiatives internally.

  • Manage complex contract lifecycles including amendments, SOWs, renewals, and multi-party agreements, coordinating cross-functional teams (Legal, Product, Engineering, Implementation) to deliver on partner commitments.

  • Build business cases and financial models to support pricing negotiations, renewal strategy, and upsell/cross-sell opportunities; maintain disciplined pipeline and forecast management with accurate revenue timing and risk visibility.

  • Monitor and translate market trends, competitive dynamics, and regulatory developments — including CMS mandates, NCPDP standards, and transparency requirements — into actionable account strategy and internal insights for leadership.

  • Actively leverage AI tools to accelerate account planning, research, communication, and reporting — contributing to Interra's broader AI-first commercial motion.

What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree a plus. 7+ years of experience in strategic account management, partnerships, or commercial roles — with a meaningful portion in or selling to the PBM, health plan, or pharmacy benefit ecosystem.

  • Proven track record managing large, complex PBM or health plan partnerships with multimillion-dollar revenue impact; direct experience with organizations such as Evernorth, Optum, CVS Caremark, Prime, Humana, or MedImpact strongly preferred.

  • Deep domain knowledge of the PBM landscape: formulary management, prior authorization, pharmacy benefit design, RTPB, cost and coverage transparency, coupon/copay programs, and patient affordability solutions.

  • Fluency in EHR distribution models, connectivity standards, and how prescriber workflows drive utilization — with an understanding of how Interra's clinical decision support capabilities fit into that ecosystem.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead contract negotiations and executive presentations without over-reliance on internal support; skilled at navigating matrixed organizations where influence must be earned across functions.

  • Strong commercial acumen: experience building business cases, financial models, and pricing analyses to support renewals and expansion opportunities.

  • Exceptional executive communication skills — written and verbal — with the ability to simplify complex concepts for senior audiences and read the room in politically sensitive conversations.

  • Ownership mentality: you treat your book of business like a P&L, operate with a bias toward action, and bring cross-functional teams along without acting as a lone wolf.

Core Competencies:

Knowledge & Application:

  • Recognized expert in PBM economics, pharmacy benefit design, and healthcare commercial strategy. Applies advanced domain knowledge independently to complex, high-stakes partnership situations — including novel contract structures, competitive dynamics, and regulatory shifts — without requiring guidance. Actively uses AI tools to sharpen account intelligence and accelerate commercial execution.

Complexity & Problem Solving:

  • Navigates complex, multi-stakeholder partnership environments with independent judgment — determining approach on ambiguous situations, anticipating risk before it surfaces, and developing creative commercial solutions that balance partner needs with Interra's strategic and revenue objectives.

Collaboration & Interaction:

  • Builds trusted, multi-threaded relationships across PBM organizations at the executive level, while orchestrating internal cross-functional teams to deliver on partner commitments. Recognized internally as the authority on the PBM book of business; brings insights and market intelligence to leadership that shape commercial strategy beyond their own accounts.

Benefits & Perks:

💸Competitive compensation
