Job description

) Cascade Living Group is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead our centralized payroll function supporting communities and home office operations across Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming.
This position is responsible for overseeing multi-state payroll operations, payroll accounting, compliance, and payroll team leadership while ensuring exceptional service to employees and stakeholders. The ideal candidate is a hands-on payroll professional with strong accounting knowledge, leadership experience, and a commitment to accuracy and continuous improvement.
What You'll Do:
Payroll Operations & Compliance
  • Oversee and actively participate in end-to-end payroll processing for a multi-state workforce.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
  • Review payroll audits, reconciliations, adjustments, and off-cycle payroll runs.
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex payroll issues.
  • Support year-end payroll activities, including W-2 processing, tax reconciliations, and audits.
  • Maintain payroll controls, documentation, and compliance standards.

Payroll Accounting
  • Prepare and review payroll-related journal entries.
  • Reconcile payroll general ledger accounts and resolve discrepancies.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Ensure accurate allocation of payroll expenses across departments and cost centers.
  • Partner with Finance to ensure payroll expenses are accurately reflected in financial statements.

Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop payroll team members.
  • Establish priorities and workflows to ensure payroll deadlines are consistently met.
  • Promote accountability, accuracy, and customer service excellence.
  • Drive process improvements and operational efficiencies.

Systems & Process Improvement
  • Serve as the payroll system subject matter expert.
  • Support payroll system enhancements, upgrades, testing, and integrations.
  • Partner with Human Resources, Finance, Benefits, Tax, and Information Technology teams.
  • Ensure payroll data integrity, confidentiality, and audit readiness.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • 3-5 years of payroll leadership, supervisory, or lead experience.
  • Experience managing multi-state payroll operations.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll compliance, payroll taxes, wage and hour laws, and garnishments.
  • Experience preparing payroll-related accounting journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Experience with payroll systems such as Paylocity, ADP, UKG, Workday, Paychex, or similar platforms.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet critical deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation.
  • Experience supporting multi-location organizations.
  • Shared services payroll experience.
