Job description

Senior Accounting Specialist

We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Senior Accounting Specialist to join our growing team in a full-time, year-round position. This role plays a key part in supporting daily accounting operations with a strong focus on Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, invoicing, bookkeeping, inventory reconciliation, payroll support, reporting, and month-end close activities. The ideal candidate will be organized, analytical, customer-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced seasonal business environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process day-to-day accounting activities including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, customer invoicing, and payment posting.
  • Assist with payroll processing and related payroll documentation to ensure timely and accurate employee payments.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and general ledger activity, including journal entries and expense coding.
  • Reconcile high-volume, perishable, and growing inventory to ensure accuracy and proper valuation.
  • Assist with seasonal cash flow management.
  • Perform month-end and year-end close activities, including revenue recognition, cost matching, reconciliations, and preparation of supporting schedules.
  • Generate financial, operational, inventory, and job costing reports for leadership review and decision-making.
  • Complete cash reconciliations and investigate discrepancies promptly and accurately.
  • Support tax compliance activities by preparing documentation and assisting with reporting requirements.
  • Assist with annual audit preparation by compiling schedules, records, and supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with the Owner and Accounting team to ensure accurate financial reporting and reconciliations.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date accounting and inventory records.
  • Follow established accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure data integrity.
  • Interact professionally with vendors, customers, and small business clients regarding account inquiries, billing, and payment issues.
  • Perform additional accounting and administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in Accounting, or related field preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of accounting, bookkeeping, or related experience preferred;
  • Experience with GAAP in Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, reconciliations, inventory accounting, payroll support, and general ledger functions.
  • Experience with retail operations preferred.
  • Job costing
  • Knowledge of month-end close procedures and financial reporting.
  • Experience with accounting software such as QBO and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a seasonal business environment.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
