Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
Has onsite responsibility for processing routing changes/updates and maintaining school bus routes, athletic and school trip reservation input and scheduling, and in addition to other administrative and operational activities for School Bus Terminal to comply with federal, state and DOT requirements regarding scheduling drivers and safety. Organizes paperwork and filing, maintains records and logs, payroll preparation and utilizes routing system for operational purposes. Carries out working plans and systems for school bus, charters, and other requested transportation that contributes to safe, on-time and consistent service to school districts, businesses and the general public.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work with Point Staff members for new work as it arises and contract work already in system.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with school officials, school district and contract work personnel and the General Public.
  • Learn the school district or new area to know all routes and be able to assist drivers in learning routes and keeping routes updated.
  • Coordinate the gathering and tracking of route/student data needed for the state transportation report and other internal/external projects as requested.
  • Maintain the daily dispatch log and make recommendations to the Terminal/Operations Manager for necessary route package adjustments as needed. This includes temporary adjustments to route packages on "special/alternate" transportation days.
  • Learn and execute the established processes to ensure Bus Camera/DVR system are functioning properly with working audio and video to include viewing and archiving segments requested.
  • Communicate student discipline reports to appropriate school administrators with direction from Terminal/Operations Manager as needed following established processes. Provide feedback to drivers regarding recommended student disciplinary action as directed by school administrators and Terminal/Operations Manager.
  • Learn the procedures and responsibilities of the Charter Area, i.e. scheduling, order taking, pricing billing, charges and follow up and prepare paperwork appropriately filling in as assigned.
  • Learn the duties of the radio dispatcher and perform the duties including responding to customer calls and completing the paperwork appropriately.
  • Drive bus routes, charters, and shuttle routes as assigned.
  • Learn the opening/closing procedures for the terminal filling-in as needed.
  • Learn the duties of the school bus dispatch office including insuring bus key control and dispatch board, assigning drivers, check-in and check-out procedures, correct use of forms and filling-in as assigned.
  • Learn the responsibilities of supervision for lot duty and fill-in as needed.
  • Learn and perform crash investigations, follow up procedures and assist Safety Department as needed.
  • Learn functions, procedures, and responsibilities of Human Resources, Customer Service, Fleet, and Recruitment departments as they relate to operations.
  • Learn payroll procedure for school bus and fill in as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality when handling all operations and administrative files.
  • Be professional in attitude, appearance, and communication skills and able to maintain confidentiality.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, written and verbal. Detail oriented including documentation skills.
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License.
  • Obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus Endorsements within 60 days of employment.
  • Able to work effectively and well with diverse groups of people, teamwork.
  • A strong working knowledge of computers and ability to learn new software programs.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prior experience in the transportation industry preferred
  • Associates Degree in Related industry or equivalent experience.
  • Intermediate knowledge and experience with MS Word and Excel.
