Job Title: Payroll Manager
Job Type: Direct Hire / Full-Time

Overview

Cherry Bekaert Staffing & Recruiting is seeking a Payroll Manager to lead and oversee end-to-end payroll operations for a growing organization. This position will be responsible for ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing across a multi-state workforce while driving process improvements and supporting broader HR/Finance initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage full-cycle payroll processing on a bi-weekly/semi-monthly basis for multi-state employees
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including tax filings and reporting
  • Lead payroll audits, reconciliations, and year-end activities (W-2s, 1099s, etc.)
  • Oversee payroll systems administration, maintenance, and enhancements
  • Partner with HR and Finance to ensure seamless integration of payroll data (benefits, bonuses, commissions, etc.)
  • Manage and mentor payroll staff (if applicable), providing training and development
  • Identify opportunities for automation, efficiency improvements, and process standardization
  • Support external audits and respond to payroll-related inquiries
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of payroll experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities
  • Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll regulations and compliance requirements
  • Experience with payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Workday, UKG, Paylocity, or similar)
  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality
Preferred Experience
  • Experience supporting large or rapidly growing employee populations
  • Exposure to benefits administration and HRIS integration
  • Experience in industries such as professional services, government contracting, or multi-entity environments
