Job Description: 

We are looking for a full-time aircraft upholsterer. We offer competitive wages based on experience levels, medical plan, holiday, vacation and a clean & airconditioned workshop to qualified individuals. Candidate must possess efficient pattern making, cutting, & sewing of custom interior products for the aviation industry. Looking for a dependable, energetic individual with a positive attitude.

  • A minimum of two years' experience working with leather and fabric is required.
  • Previous hands-on experience with pattern making, cutting and sewing is necessary.
  • Excellent time management skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on our customer delivery schedule.
  • A valid and current driver's license.
  • Drug free work environment.

The Job is ideal for someone who:

  • Must have knowledge of sewing/sewing machines, relevant tools and sewing experience.
  • Must be able to create patterns and templates.
  • Must be able to cut pieces from patterns and templates.
  • Must be able to read and manufacture to drawings.
  • Lift fabrics & component pieces weighing up to 10 - 70 lbs. if needed.
  • Frequently walking to and from worktables, departments and stocked fabric, thread and sewing materials.
  • Must have sewing and fabric finishing skills; single, double stitch and serging.
  • Assist with the manufacture of other products when required.

Job Duties/description:

  • Cut, sew and construct completed pieces in a timely manner.
  • Before sending completed pieces to be fitted, pieces will be inspected to assure they are consistent with sizes, quantities and dimensions needed.
  • Completes pieces by checking for correct fit, sewing parts and sub-assemblies.
  • Use of hand tools, scissors, tape measure, seam ripper.
  • Knowledge of various sewing stitch methods.
  • Disassembly of completed pieces to repair and get back to specifications for correct fitment.
  • Measure, cut, and sew fabrics and leathers utilizing areas of the leather hides for the best finish results.
  • Cut, bond and assemble seat cushion foam to final design and style.
  • Design and fabricate quality patterns for upholstery and foam build for VIP aircraft seating.
  • Operate sewing machine to seam cushions and join various sections of covering material.
  • Fit, install, and secure material on work piece, using hand tools, power tools, glue, cement, and staples.
  • Adjust and replace webbing, padding, and springs and secure them in place.
  • Read Engineering drawings, apply knowledge and experience with materials to determine type and quantities of material that will be required for each project.
  • Draw cutting lines on material following pattern, templates, sketches and blueprints, using chalk, pencil, paint, and other method.
  • Identify areas of potential problems in the upholstery and bring a solution.
  • Mentor and train lesser skilled technicians and monitor their work to ensure they complete assigned tasks in accordance with required levels of safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Duties involve patterning seat cover designs, cutting leather from patterns and sewing covers for aircraft seats in corporate aircraft. Other items involved are assembling foam cushions prior to making seat covers and upholstering associated parts in corporate aircraft.

Experience: 

  • Relevant; 2 years (preferred)
  • Sewing; 2 years (preferred)
  • Assignments require basic knowledge beyond the assigned work.
  • Demonstrates correct understanding of routine aspects of work.
  • Performs basic, less complex and routine assignments.
  • Assists Journeyman Level or Higher Technicians on moderately complex technical assignments.
  • Organized and detailed oriented.
  • Ability to lift 35-55 lbs. consistently during 8-10-hour shifts.

  • Ability to use measuring tools and perform basic math computations.
  • Able to climb ladders and stairs, work in small, restricted areas, lift up to 40 pounds and work any shift.
  • Must be computer literate. High school diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years' experience using commercial sewing machines, sergers and hand tools.
  • Experience in aerospace industry preferred.
  • Prior experience working with sewing machines, patterning, general upholstery are a requirement for consideration. Prior experience in commercial upholstery in aircraft, marine or automotive (preferred).
