Insurance Verification Specialist
Position Overview
The Insurance Verification Specialist plays a vital role in supporting the financial health and operational efficiency of Genesis PrimeCare by ensuring accurate and timely verification of patient insurance coverage prior to services. This position is responsible for confirming eligibility, benefits, network participation, and designation of the health center as the patient's primary care provider (PCP), while proactively addressing any discrepancies that could delay care or reimbursement.
The specialist obtains and tracks prior authorizations for procedures, medications, and referrals, coordinates closely with clinical and billing teams to prevent denials, and maintains accurate documentation within the electronic health record (EHR). This role also serves as a resource for patients by explaining coverage details, assisting with PCP changes, and helping resolve insurance-related issues to ensure uninterrupted access to care.
Working collaboratively with front desk, clinical, billing, and coding staff, the Insurance Verification Specialist helps maintain a seamless patient workflow and supports compliance with all federal, state, and organizational requirements. Strong communication, attention to detail, and customer service skills are essential to ensure patients receive high-quality, accessible care while safeguarding the health center's revenue cycle.
Qualifications
Required:
  • High School Diploma or GED
Preferred:
  • Associates degree or relevant certification in healthcare administration, medical billing, or related field.
  • Two years experience in insurance verification, medical billing, or a similar role in a healthcare setting, preferably in an FQHC or community health center.
