Job description

Overview
Shifts Available: Variable
Employment Type: Per Diem (PRN)
Hours: Variable (Evenings/Weekends)
Location: St. Joseph Medical Center - Kansas City, MO
We are seeking a Patient Account Registrar, sometimes referred to as a Hospital Admission Representative. The Patient Account Registrar collects and verifies patient demographic and insurance information while ensuring eligibility, benefits, and authorizations are accurately obtained. The Patient Account Registrar collaborates closely with the Admitting team and communicates effectively with patients across all age groups. This position is on a per diem basis, meaning PD/PRN as needed.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with nursing staff, case managers, and physicians to assign beds for incoming patients based on medical needs, availability, and urgency
  • Monitor bed occupancy and status in real-time using hospital information systems
  • act as a liaison between various hospital departments to facilitate smooth patient transfers and optimize bed usage
  • Update patient data in the hospital's electronic medical record (EMR) system to reflect admissions, discharges, and transfers accurately
  • Run reports and analyze bed utilization trends to support hospital operations

Qualifications
  • Previous hospital experience as an admissions representative preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize needs to meet required timelines.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Customer Services experience required.
  • High School Graduate or GED Equivalent Required (effective 4/1/14 for all new hires)
