Job description

Airtight Energy Consulting, Inc. is a small but growing company that provides HERS ratings, Passive House consulting and verification, and energy code assistance to developers, architects, contractors and others involved in the design and construction of multifamily buildings, single family homes, and commercial buildings. 

This position will focus on consulting and field verification for residential, multifamily and commercial buildings located in the Greater Boston area.  This will include multi-fan blower door testing, HERS ratings, ENERGY STAR certification, and Passive House verification for multifamily and commercial projects.  This position has tremendous growth potential; the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a variety of high performance, sustainable multifamily projects across the region and to provide guidance and leadership for new raters in the coming years. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Providing project management and consulting for high performance new construction and major renovation projects from start to finish 
  • Reviewing architectural, mechanical, plumbing, and lighting plans and specifications 
  • Performing take-offs of envelope, mechanical, plumbing, and lighting systems  
  • Performing HERS ratings of multifamily buildings, including duplexes, townhomes, condominium projects, and apartment buildings with up to several hundred dwelling units 
  • Certifying projects under ENERGY STAR Multifamily, Indoor AirPLUS, and DOE Efficient New Homes 
  • Providing Passive House verification services to multifamily projects 
  • Performing on-site inspections for projects 
  • Performing blower door, duct leakage, and ventilation testing using diagnostic equipment 
  • Attending high performance building events to promote Airtight Energy Consulting and advance oneโ€™s technical knowledge 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in science, engineering, architecture, building technology, or similar 
  • Minimum of 3-4 years experience as a HERS rater 
  • Experience performing HERS ratings on multifamily buildings 
  • Interest in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and minimizing global climate change 
  • Located within Massachusetts and able to drive to construction sites located in the Greater Boston area several days per week
  • Willing to travel to our office in Northampton periodically (2-3 times/month)
  • Have completed ENERGY STAR rater training 
  • Certified Passive House Verifier or ability to take the next available Verifier training 
  • Use of a personal vehicle for work and a good driving record
