Job description

Sustainable Comfort, Inc., a green building and energy efficiency consulting firm specializing in multifamily housing, is seeking a Certified Passive House Verifier (Phius) to join our growing team of building performance professionals.
Ideal candidates will have experience with Phius verification and HERS Ratings on multifamily projects, with a strong background in building science, high-performance construction, diagnostic testing, and residential energy efficiency.
This role combines technical design review, project coordination, field inspections, performance testing, and certification documentation for multifamily projects pursuing Passive House/Phius and other green building and energy-efficiency standards.
What You'll Do
  • Perform design and construction document reviews for Passive House/Phius projects.
  • Conduct on-site verification and inspections throughout construction.
  • Develop testing and verification plans based on project requirements and certification standards.
  • Review building envelope, airtightness, insulation, HVAC, ventilation, and other high-performance building components.
  • Perform and support diagnostic testing, including blower door, duct leakage, and ventilation testing.
  • Conduct contractor orientations and communicate certification requirements to construction teams.
  • Coordinate with project managers, contractors, design teams, and other SCI staff throughout the verification process.
  • Track project requirements, documentation, testing results, and certification deliverables.
  • Support project closeout and submission of complete and accurate documentation for Phius review.
  • Stay current with Passive House/Phius standards and other applicable green building and energy-efficiency program requirements.

Qualifications
  • Phius Certified Verifier credential required.
  • Professional experience with Passive House/Phius projects.
  • Experience with multifamily building performance, construction, or energy efficiency.
  • Strong understanding of building science, including airtightness, building envelope systems, HVAC, ventilation, and high-performance construction practices.
  • Experience conducting field inspections and building performance testing.
  • Ability to review construction drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage technical documentation and certification requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with design and construction teams.

Preferred experience includes RESNET HERS Rater certification, HERS Ratings on multifamily buildings, energy modeling, and experience with ENERGY STAR Multifamily New Construction, Indoor AirPLUS, DOE Zero Energy Ready Homes, LEED, Enterprise Green Communities, or other green building programs.
Education & Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, building science, or a related field; an associate degree with relevant experience; or equivalent professional experience in building construction and performance.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
  • Ability to travel regularly to project sites throughout Greater Boston and surrounding areas, including occasional overnight travel.
  • Ability to navigate active construction sites, climb ladders and stairs, and move equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for this position is $58,000-$78,000 annually, based on relevant experience, certifications, technical knowledge, and demonstrated skills.
