Job description

About Kapor Capital
Kapor Capital is an early-stage venture capital firm based in Oakland, CA, investing primarily in pre-seed and seed-stage technology companies. We focus on addressing the lack of access and opportunity for underserved communities, particularly low-income communities and communities of color. We are currently investing out of our third fund, totaling $126M and is one of the largest Black-led funds ever raised. Our impact reports, pioneered in 2019, and our industry-first Founders' Commitment from 2016 exemplify our dedication to impact and equity. Portfolio companies generate both strong economic value and positive social impact in our investment sectors across education, financial inclusion, health, sustainability, employment, and justice. We have more than 130 companies in our portfolio, including LiquiDonate, Ethic, CareCar, Binti, Outrival, Numerade, ChargerHelp, and Promise.
About the role
We're looking for a dynamic, high-conviction investor to join our team as a Partner. In this role, you'll help shape the future of the firm by identifying and backing extraordinary founders at the earliest stages. You'll lead end-to-end investments, drive thesis development, and provide strategic support to founders as they navigate the challenges of early company building.
Ideal candidates are passionate about venture and social impact, thrive in a fast-paced and evolving environment, and want to be an active, hands-on contributor to both our portfolio and firm strategy. You'll work closely with the Managing Partner, Venture Partner and broader team to scale our investing platform, strengthen our presence in the ecosystem, and deliver outsized value to the companies we support.
What you'll do
  • Source and lead investment opportunities in pre-seed to Series A startups that fit our investment criteria of gap-closing for low-income communities and/or communities of color
  • Own the full deal lifecycle: sourcing, diligence, memo writing, IC presentation, and term sheet negotiation
  • Serve as a key point of contact and strategic advisor to portfolio founders
  • Help shape and evolve the firm's investment thesis and sector focus areas
  • Represent Kapor Capital at industry events, demo days, and through thought leadership
  • Support fund operations, LP communications, and fundraising efforts
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to internal knowledge-sharing

Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience in venture capital, with a proven track record in early-stage investments, particularly in mission-driven startups (with successful exits)
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or Computer Science - MBA is a plus
  • Demonstrated commitment to closing gaps of access, opportunity or outcomes for low-income communities of underrepresented ethnic and racial minorities
  • Deep understanding of startup dynamics, founder challenges, and early-stage company building
  • Exceptional sourcing instincts and strong founder network
  • High level of confidentiality and strong work ethic.
  • Exceptional analytical ability. Must be able to analyze data effectively, interpret results, and extract data-driven insights.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization and to the larger technology community.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence.
