Purpose and Objective:
SAP America, Inc. seeks a Development Manager at our Naperville, IL location responsible for management of individuals and teams in the design, implementation, and maintenance of modules or features or a product.
Expectations and Tasks:
Provides application implementation services typically within the boundaries of specifications and project plans. Design activities include requirements analysis and design documentation. Implementation activities include implementation, testing and integration. Maintenance activities include error analysis and removal. Usually extends, modifies or adapts existing designs but may also be involved in the development of new (sub-) systems. Set clear goals with team members, inspire them, and support them towards accomplishing these goals and evaluate goal achievement. Actively acting as coach and mentor to help with personal development. Conducts deliverable reviews, providing performance feedback while establishing a safe space for developers to effectively learn and grow. Contribute to change management and drive engineering excellence and continuous improvement within the engineering team. Clarify implementation approach and plan execution with the engineering team. Partners with Product Management and User Experience to translate the overall outcome-based roadmap and vision into a product backlog and prioritization understandable to the development team. Perform hands-on technical tasks and responsibilities in addition to team management, coaching, and development. Ensure product requirements, as well as non-functional requirements are built, tested, and maintained. Own technical leadership and decide on how the product is implemented. Owns the technology decisions and resource investments (framework/architecture/tooling, etc.). Ensure compliance of software development processes with relevant standards, regulations, and legal requirements. Manage 3rd party contractors and supplier management for engineering. Identify and address potential delivery risks that may impact on the success of the product. Attend Agile Team ceremonies. Ensure supportability of the product e.g. telemetry, performance, health check monitoring and customer feedback channels. Ensure service quality is continuously driven via e.g. root cause analysis and preventive actions. Drive adherence to support metrics and ensure 24/7 support (e.g. Manager on Duty, Developer on Duty role).
Education and Occupational Experience:
Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or a related field of study and seven (7) years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or related occupation. Alternatively, a Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or a related field of study and five (5) years of experience in the job offered or related occupation.
Qualifications/Skills and Competencies Experience:
Experience must include five (5) years involving each of the following:
  • Building design specifications from requirements;
  • Performing impact analysis and designing, building and testing features of applications;
  • Mentoring and leading Team Members;
  • DevOps responsibilities;
  • Java, Web services, Struts, Spring, Java Script, JQuery, and Tomcat; and
  • Databases, SQL Server, and Solr Search.

Compensation Range Transparency: The annual base salary range for this position is $160,310 - $272,486. SAP believes the value of pay transparency contributes towards an honest and supportive culture and is a significant step toward demonstrating SAP's commitment to pay equity. SAP provides the annualized compensation range inclusive of base salary and variable incentive target for the career level applicable to the posted role. The targeted combined range for this position is $195,500 - $332,300. The actual amount to be offered to the successful candidate will be within that range, dependent upon the key aspects of each case which may include education, skills, experience, scope of the role, location, etc. as determined through the selection process. Any SAP variable incentive includes a targeted dollar amount and any actual payout amount is dependent on company and personal performance.
