What are part-time jobs?

Part-time jobs are positions in which employees work fewer hours per week than full-time employees, typically less than 35-40 hours. These jobs often offer more flexible schedules, making them ideal for students, parents, or anyone needing to balance work with other commitments. Part-time roles can be found in a variety of industries, such as retail, food service, healthcare, and administration. Benefits and pay may vary compared to full-time positions, and some part-time jobs may not offer benefits like health insurance or paid time off.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part-time worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a part-time worker, you generally need reliability, time management, a willingness to learn, and the relevant educational or experience requirements for the specific role. Familiarity with point-of-sale systems, scheduling software, or other job-specific tools is often beneficial. Strong communication, adaptability, and teamwork are valuable soft skills that help part-time employees integrate quickly into existing teams. These skills and qualities are important because part-time roles often require flexibility and the ability to contribute effectively within limited hours.

What are some common challenges faced by part-time employees, and how can they overcome them?

Part-time employees often face challenges such as limited access to benefits, inconsistent scheduling, and fewer opportunities for advancement compared to full-time staff. To overcome these, it's helpful to communicate availability clearly, proactively seek feedback, and express interest in professional development opportunities. Building strong relationships with colleagues and supervisors can also lead to greater flexibility and consideration for future full-time roles. Staying organized and adaptable is key to balancing work with other commitments.

Job description

I-2-I Solutions is seeking a qualified Environmental Water Sampler to support federal water quality and PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances) sampling projects. This role involves collecting drinking water and environmental samples in accordance with strict federal, state, and laboratory protocols, with a strong emphasis on contamination prevention and data integrity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform field sampling of drinking water systems, including PFAS, Colilert, PH, Chlorine....
  • Follow strict PFAS sampling protocols to prevent cross-contamination
  • Accurately complete Chain-of-Custody (COC) documentation
  • Label, preserve, and package samples for laboratory shipment
  • Maintain proper sample handling procedures (cooling, storage, and transport)
  • Deliver collected Samples to the appropriate Laboratory or to the FedEx/UPS location
  • Coordinate with project managers and laboratory partners
  • Follow site-specific safety and access requirements (including VA facilities)
  • Maintain field logs, sampling records, and QA/QC documentation

PFAS-Specific Requirements

Candidates must understand or be willing to strictly follow PFAS sampling protocols, including:

  • Use of PFAS-free materials and avoidance of prohibited items (e.g., Teflon/PTFE-containing materials)
  • Proper use of powderless nitrile gloves and frequent glove changes
  • Strict control of sample containers (only open during collection, never placed on surfaces)
  • Avoidance of cross-contamination from clothing, food packaging, and personal care products
  • Maintenance of clean sampling environment and equipment

(PFAS sampling requires heightened contamination control due to widespread presence in consumer products and extremely low detection limits)

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in water sampling, environmental fieldwork, or related discipline preferred
  • Familiarity with EPA or state sampling procedures (drinking water, Legionella, or PFAS is a plus)
  • Ability to follow detailed technical instructions and SOPs
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
  • Ability to work independently in the field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with PFAS sampling or low-level contaminant sampling
  • Knowledge of QA/QC procedures (field blanks, duplicates, etc.)
  • Experience working on federal or VA contracts
  • OSHA 10/30 or similar safety training

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to walk, stand, and carry sampling equipment
  • Comfortable working in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and facility environments
  • Ability to travel locally between sampling sites
  • Must be able to follow PPE and safety protocols

Compensation

  • Competitive hourly rate (based on experience)
  • Travel reimbursement (if applicable)

Why Join I-2-I Solutions

  • Work on high-impact federal environmental projects
  • Opportunity for repeat and long-term contract work
  • Growing company with strong partnerships in water quality and laboratory services

How to Apply

Please submit your resume and a brief summary of your field sampling experience.

Note: Training on PFAS sampling protocols will be provided; however, candidates must demonstrate strong attention to detail and ability to follow strict contamination-control procedures.
