General Description
SUNY Niagara has a need for a part-time instructor to teach the Introduction to Web Design course, which is a class within the Division of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
Classes are held on SUNY Niagara's main campus in Sanborn, NY. Applicants must be able to attend in-person meetings, professional development, and other obligations on the Sanborn, NY campus.
In order to build and maintain an active pool of qualified candidates to meet our present and future needs for this position, SUNY Niagara will accept applications on a continuous basis. Openings may or may not exist at this time. Applications are evaluated on an as-needed basis, and candidates will be contacted when the department has an opening. Candidates who submit their information may or may not be notified as to the status of their application.
Typical Work Activities
  • Teach courses in the delivery format agreed upon (face-to-face, face-to-face with Zoom option, hyflex, hybrid, blended, or online)
  • Hold office hours (in person or virtual as appropriate)
  • Track attendance
  • Complete census reports
  • Report assessment of student learning outcomes at the conclusion of the term
  • Report grades at the conclusion of the term

Essential Functions
Ability to navigate relationships with diverse populations. Must be able to communicate effectively with students, co-workers, supervisors and the campus community. Must be able to develop, prepare, and present information. Must be able to operate computers, have reliable internet service, and must adjust any teaching to the Americans with Disabilities Act provisions.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Digital Media, Computer Science, or related field
  • Demonstrated evidence of knowledge and experience (educational and/or professional) in web design including, but not limited to: HTML, CSS, website design, and techniques for image editing and optimization
  • Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop and other Creative Cloud applications
  • Excellent oral communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Master's degree or terminal degree in Digital Media, Computer Science, or related field
  • Demonstrated evidence of knowledge and experience in the creation and management of websites
  • Knowledge of UX (user experience), UI (user interface), and responsive design
  • Experience teaching college-level courses
  • Experience with instructional technology and teaching in virtual formats
