Job description

Summary

We are currently working with a company in Plano, TX that is looking to hire a finance leader as part of a planned succession effort. Their current CFO is transitioning into a part-time retirement role, and they are seeking someone to lead a team of 8 while taking a hands-on approach to the accounting side of the business. While technically the title will be VP of Finance, they are not requiring this person to have been in a VP role. The company consists of approximately 185 employees. The job focused more on accounting leadership and operational oversight than high-level corporate finance. Experience with Sage and ADP would be highly beneficial. This is an onsite position, requiring attendance in the Plano office Monday through Friday.

VP Finance

  • Owns the finance function and sets the standard for how the department operates — including controls, processes, and team accountability.
  • Serves as the senior finance leader responsible for the day-to-day financial health and operational integrity of the organization.
  • Partners with the CEO and department heads on budgets, forecasts, and business decisions requiring financial insight.
  • Leads the monthly and annual financial close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Maintains integrity of general ledger transactions, journal entries, account reconciliations, and depreciation schedules.
  • Owns preparation and review of financial statements.
  • Delivers monthly reporting packages to the executive team covering operating results, AR aging, and utilization.
  • Manages Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Purchasing.
  • Oversees customer invoicing, collections, and AR reporting to support cash flow.
  • Identifies and implements process improvements across AP, AR, and procurement.
  • Oversees commission payment processes for the sales team and channel partners.
  • Reviews commission data and statements prior to payroll submission to ensure accuracy and auditability.
  • Owns cash flow management and financial planning.
  • Maintains rolling cash flow forecasts and proactively communicates risks and opportunities to leadership.
  • Leads the annual budgeting process and quarterly reforecasting in partnership with the executive team.
  • Ensures regulatory and tax compliance, including accurate and timely filings.
  • Manages relationships with external CPA, tax advisors, banking partners, and compliance vendors.
  • Maintains a compliance calendar and holds stakeholders accountable to all filing deadlines.
  • Manages and develops the finance and accounting team, including an Accounting Manager and supporting staff.
  • Sets clear expectations, reviews work, and addresses performance or capability gaps proactively.

Qualifications And Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA or MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including ownership of the full finance function in a mid-market environment.
  • Proven ability to operate both strategically and hands-on — comfortable setting direction and doing the work.
  • Experience in a service-based business; IT services, managed services, or telecommunications background a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to present financial information clearly to executive leadership.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems such as Sage Intacct, ConnectWise, or equivalent.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, integrity, and internal controls.
