  • MKs receive a 13-week rating course in Yorktown, VA, with instruction in basic mechanical and electrical theory and operation, as well as introduction to engine overhaul and maintenance.
  • Specific diesel engine and outboard engine training, as well as training in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, hydraulics, law enforcement, leadership, and management.
  • Both full-time and part-time Coast Guard-funded educational opportunities leading to an associate or bachelor's degree or higher may be available. Specifically, the Engineering Technology program is available to the MK rating.
