To thrive as a Part Time Visual Designer, you need strong graphic design skills, a solid portfolio, and proficiency in visual communication principles, often supported by a relevant degree or coursework. Familiarity with industry-standard design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and basic knowledge of UI/UX or web design systems is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and effective collaboration set standout designers apart in this role. These skills are essential for delivering visually compelling work that aligns with client needs and brand standards while meeting deadlines in a flexible, part-time environment.

What does a Part Time Visual Designer do?

A Part Time Visual Designer is responsible for creating visual elements for digital or print media, such as websites, marketing materials, or product packaging, but works fewer hours than a full-time designer. Their tasks may include designing layouts, selecting colors and fonts, and collaborating with other team members to ensure that visuals align with brand guidelines. Part-time roles are often more flexible, allowing designers to balance work with other commitments. They may work in-house, at an agency, or as freelancers depending on the employer's needs.

How does a part-time visual designer typically collaborate with full-time team members on projects?

Part-time visual designers often work closely with full-time designers, project managers, and marketing teams to ensure design consistency and meet project deadlines. Collaboration usually happens through regular check-ins, shared digital workspaces, and feedback sessions. Flexibility and clear communication are essential, as part-time designers may need to coordinate their schedules to align with team meetings and project milestones. This structure allows part-time designers to contribute creatively while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Position Overview
The Athens Rock Lobsters are seeking a dynamic, talented Part-Time Graphics Designer to elevate the visual experience at every home game. This role is instrumental in producing captivating static and motion graphics for in-game assets, including the Jumbotron, ribbon boards, scoreboards, intermission activities, and corporate sponsorship displays.
As a hybrid position requiring a minimum of 25 hours per week, the core focus of this role is to collaborate with the team during the week to create high-impact visual assets, upload them directly into our arena control room systems, and attend home games to monitor and manage the content live as needed. The ideal candidate thrives in a high-energy, live-event environment and excels at delivering innovative visual content that drives fan engagement, team communication, and sponsor activation.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design high-impact visuals: Create stunning graphics for live game-day use, including crowd prompts, fan engagement segments, sponsorship activations, and scoreboard displays.
  • Collaborate with Game Operations: Partner with production, marketing, and creative teams to ensure all visual assets align with Rock Lobsters' brand standards and game-day objectives.
  • Integrate with Live Production: Seamlessly coordinate with the control room production team to integrate designs into live, real-time game-day presentations.
  • Maintain Brand Consistency: Ensure flawless application of team branding across all in-venue platforms, digital displays, and internal assets.
  • Optimize for Large Format: Format and prepare final creative assets for optimal performance on large-format video boards, LED ribbons, and intermission activities.
  • Stay Ahead of Trends: Keep up with the latest trends in sports presentation, motion design, and fan engagement to bring fresh, exciting ideas to the arena.
  • Adapt on the Fly: Respond quickly to last-minute content changes or script adjustments during live events while maintaining strict quality and brand standards.
  • Support Special Events: Contribute visual content for team initiatives, corporate partnerships, and non-hockey special events.

What We're Looking For
Experience & Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Motion Design, Interactive Media, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience in graphic or motion design. Experience in sports game presentation, minor- or major-league sports, or live event production is strongly preferred.

Technical Proficiency:
  • High proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Expertise in After Effects or similar motion design software is a major plus.
  • Strong understanding of design for large-format displays, animation principles, typography, and asset management.

Key Attributes:
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced, live event environment.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and time-management skills.
  • A self-starter mindset with a sharp creative eye and a passion for sports entertainment.

Work Schedule & Availability
  • Weekly Commitment: Minimum of 25 hours per week, combining flexible remote design hours with scheduled game-day production.
  • Game-Day Requirements: Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays as dictated by the Athens Rock Lobsters home game schedule. Attendance at home games is mandatory for executing live graphics.

We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, gender identity, marital or veteran status, or any other protected class.
Job Questions:
  1. Why are you interested in joining the Rock Lobsters organization?
  2. Can you commit to a minimum of 25 hours per week (combining flexible remote and in-office design work) and maintain full availability to work all Athens Rock Lobsters home games throughout the 2026-27 season?
  3. Based on your previous experience, why do you believe you'd be a good fit for this role?
