Position Summary
The Unit Secretary performs clerical and computer tasks to assist the nursing and medical staff in their provision of patient care.
Essential Functions
  • Accurately transcribes physician orders. Performs computer order entry duties.
  • Performs clerical duties related to the maintenance of patient records, unit data, admission, discharge and transfers. Photocopies as directed.
  • Answers the telephone, takes/relays messages and directs calls.
  • Requisitions and orders supplies and equipment, maintenance and repair service and prepares related forms. Keeps stock and equipment inventories.
  • Maintains departmental records and collects data for administrative and regulatory purposes.
  • Prioritizes work and provides prompt, courteous and efficient service.
  • Observes a patient requiring 1:1 direct supervision for safety.

Qualifications
  • Computer knowledge, Windows and database systems
  • Successful completion of Medical Terminology course and/or equivalent
  • CPR Certification
