Part Time Therapist information

What does a typical work schedule look like for a part time therapist?

Part Time Therapists usually work flexible hours, which may include evenings or weekends to accommodate clients’ schedules. The weekly workload can vary, but often involves a set number of client sessions—ranging from a few hours up to 20 hours per week—along with time for documentation, supervision, and ongoing professional development. Some therapists are employed by clinics or practices with fixed shifts, while others work independently and can set their own appointment times. This flexibility allows many to balance other commitments, such as private practice, family, or further education. It's important to discuss scheduling preferences and expectations with your prospective employer during the interview process.

What is a part time therapist?

A Part Time Therapist provides mental health support to clients on a limited schedule, often working fewer hours than a full-time therapist. They may work in private practices, clinics, or telehealth settings, offering counseling, therapy sessions, and coping strategies. This role is ideal for professionals seeking work-life balance or supplemental income while still making a meaningful impact on clients' well-being.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the part time therapist position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Therapist, you need a graduate degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field, licensure as required by your state, and experience providing direct client care. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and telehealth platforms, along with ongoing continuing education or certification, is typically expected. Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, active listening, and nonjudgmental communication set outstanding therapists apart. These attributes are crucial for building trust, facilitating client progress, and maintaining ethical and effective therapeutic relationships.

Job description

At Malaty Therapy, we’re more than just a mental health practice — we’re a supportive, purpose-driven team helping adolescents, young adults, professionals and families find real change. We believe therapy should be authentic, connected, and grounded in compassion. Our clinicians value collaboration, professional growth, and creating a meaningful impact in the lives of the people we serve.
Position Summary:
We’re currently hiring a part-time therapist with the goal of growing into a full-time role. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants the stability of employment, administrative support, and a caseload provided, while still having the clinical freedom to work with populations they’re passionate about.
We’re looking for someone motivated, relational, and excited to be part of a collaborative, growing team.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide individual, couples, or family therapy to a diverse caseload (adolescents and/or adults).
  • Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation.
  • Collaborate with our clinical team for case consultation and support.
  • Attend monthly team meetings and participate in the practice’s culture.
  • Optional: Lead therapy groups or workshops if interested.
Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field.
  • Active Texas licensure (LPC, LMFT, LCSW, or provisionally licensed with supervisor).
  • Available to work some evening or weekend hours.
  • Comfortable with (or willing to learn) electronic health records (EHR).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Alignment with Malaty Therapy’s values of connection, authenticity, and service.
What We Offer:
  • Competitive compensation.
  • Opportunities to grow into a full-time caseload.
  • Administrative support (scheduling, billing, intake).
  • Comfortable office environment and/or hybrid setup.
  • Marketing and referrals handled by the practice.
  • Regular clinical consultation and peer support.
  • A team culture that values your voice, energy, and work-life balance.
Join Us:
Whether you’re early in your career or looking for a long-term clinical home, Malaty Therapy offers the opportunity to do meaningful work in a supportive, growth-oriented environment.
