Job description

Title : Teen Services Assistant (Impact Leader II) - [30 hours/week - full
benefits]
Work Schedule : Part-time - non-exempt. Generally scheduled up to 30 hours per week, Mondays - Friday, between 11:00 am and 6:00 pm. Occasional late evening and weekend responsibilities (i.e. training, youth workshops, outreach, etc.)
Reports to: Teen Services Coordinator
MISSION: "Our Mission is to inspire and empower the youth of Monterey County to realize their full potential to become responsible, healthy, productive and successful citizens."
POSITION SUMMARY:
Working under the direction of the Teen Services Coordinator, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County (BGCMC) Impact Leader II is responsible for outstanding daily supervision and quality assurance of BGCMC's award winning youth development services and area specific programming for diverse youth primarily ages 11-18 while maintaining flexibility to support age groups 6-11 as needed. S/he will be responsible for helping youth acquire the necessary developmental assets they need to achieve academic success, adopt a healthy lifestyle, cultivate their good character and citizenship, and life and workforce readiness skills. Additionally, the MSR Teen Services Assistant will work in close collaboration with members, staff, volunteers, and community partners with the goal of inspiring, informing and preparing youth for post-secondary education and/or career development.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide guidance, mentoring and role modeling to youth assist with planning, implementation, recruitment and tracking attendance of programs;
  • Support youth in following club rules, addressing discipline situations using BGCMC positive discipline approach which requires fairness, firmness, consistency and kindness;
  • Implement approved High Yield Learning Programs and Activities;
  • Assist youth in successfully completing homework after school;
  • Tutor members in science, math, technology, literacy, and reading;
  • Facilitate teen field trips;
  • Host essential program including but not limited to: life skills, youth mental health, anti-bullying and academic support workshops;
  • Lead and/or collaborate in activities and/or programs in one or more of the Core Program Areas of Education & Career Development, Health & Life Skills, Sports, Fitness & Recreation and Character Development & Leadership Development & Life and Workforce Readiness skills;
  • Supervise and maintain safe, clean and well-organized program areas;
  • Supervise volunteers and visitors in program area;
  • Respect confidentiality of members, employees, volunteers and information;
  • Create, compile and maintain a Case Management system for MSR members; and
  • Lead and/or collaborate in off site BGCMC youth development programs and/or activities (i.e. School Day Program, Catch The Bus, Outreach, etc.)
  • Provide support to other program departments (ie. Education, SFR, Technology etc.) as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with youth between 11 to 18 years old.
  • Passionate about youth success as defined in BGCMC Mission & Strategic Goals.
  • Personal & professional alignment with BGCMC Core Values, Beliefs & Standards.
  • Accepts responsibility as a Role Model/Mentor for Youth and Mandated Reporter.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, high-energy youth friendly environment.
  • Keen attention to detail, safety and order.
  • Must effectively show the ability to demonstrate classroom management skills.
  • Tech savvy, including proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, Google Work Space and Internet for maximum productivity.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience as youth development professional in the BGCMC Movement.
  • First Aid & CPR Certification.
  • CA Food Handler Certification.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Valid driver's license and driving history that would not disqualify you from driving BGCMCs vehicles

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors.
  • Must be able to walk, stand, push, pull, balance, stoop and kneel.

COMPENSATION:
Salary begins at $22.03 to $23.15 per hour and is based upon experience and qualifications. Paid benefits package at Impact Leader II level consisting of paid vacation, paid sick leave, plus paid California Healthy Workplace Healthy Family sick leave, medical, vision, dental, life and disability insurance, pension and 403(b) plan investment options. Professional development opportunities are available contingent upon funding and approval. This position is classified as non-exempt and as such is eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
