Job description

The Department of Midwifery is seeking to form a pool of experienced professionals to fill part-time teaching positions beginning in September 2024 for midwifery related courses at Bastyr University's Kenmore campus, 15 miles north of Seattle. We are a hard-working, supportive team, committed to creating an inclusive learning environment where student midwives feel welcomed, represented, supported and safe; where students learn to care for all families in a way that is culturally affirming and respectful; and where our commitment to social justice is woven into every facet of our program. The Department of Midwifery is seeking part-time adjunct instructors for courses in the areas listed below, but welcome applications for teaching any course in our MS Midwifery or MA Maternal Child Health Systems programs. Instructors should be dynamic and experienced teachers who apply active student-learning methods in the classroom.
Midwifery courses are taught in a hybrid format, with some of the material taught online and some of it facilitated in monthly face-to-face classes on the Kenmore campus. Instructors are expected to be in the classroom for the monthly onsite classes.
Ideal candidates must be independent, motivated instructors with initiative and problem-solving skills. Attention to detail and dedication to student engagement and learning are important required skills. Must have at least 2 years of midwifery experience and/or teaching experience.
Qualifications:
  • Licensure/certification as a CPM, CNM and/or LM for most midwifery courses.
  • Master's level credential preferred but not required for all courses.
  • Relevant experience with the course material to be taught (please specify).
  • Teaching experience and/or a commitment to developing teaching skills.
  • Continuing education, self-directed study, or relevant experience with course content.
  • Significant experience in clinical midwifery practice is essential in home or birth center setting for the Labor & Birth course.
  • Commitment to continued personal and departmental growth in anti-oppression work.
  • Excellent communication skills in person and online.

Requirements:
  • Access to and relevant skills with computer, internet and email.
  • Available to be off-call during in-person class sessions.
  • Available for online learning activities with students and faculty communications. We use Canvas as our learning management system.
