As of Aug 26, 2026, the average yearly pay for part time teacher in Boca Raton, FL is $44,212.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $31,800.00 and $54,100.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is a part time teacher?

Part time teachers are educators who work fewer hours than full-time teachers, often teaching a limited number of classes or subjects. They may work in schools, colleges, or educational centers, and their schedules are typically more flexible. Part time teachers may be responsible for lesson planning, classroom instruction, grading, and supporting students, but usually with a reduced workload. This role is ideal for individuals seeking a better work-life balance or those who have other commitments outside of teaching.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time teacher, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Teacher, you typically need subject matter expertise, a relevant teaching credential or degree, and experience working with students. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), classroom technology, and digital teaching resources is often required. Strong communication, adaptability, and time management skills help you engage students and balance diverse responsibilities. These competencies are crucial for delivering effective instruction, fostering a positive learning environment, and efficiently managing limited teaching hours.

What do part time teachers do?

Part-time teachers work with students to educate them on a variety of subjects. Unlike full-time teachers, part-time teachers work thirty hours or less per week. They sometimes split classroom duties and hours with another part-time teacher. Job duties for part-time teachers vary, depending on the grade they teach and their specialty. Preschool teachers typically work with kids from ages two to four and work on building blocks of education, such as the alphabet, colors, and basic shapes. From grades kindergarten through twelfth grade, part-time teachers continue the educational progression of students through grammar, math, science, and history, as well as life skills, which prepares students for college and the workplace.

How do part time teachers typically balance classroom responsibilities with other commitments?

Part-time teachers often manage a flexible schedule, which allows them to pursue additional work, education, or personal responsibilities outside of teaching. However, balancing lesson planning, grading, and student communication within reduced hours can be challenging. Success in this role often relies on strong time management and organizational skills. Collaboration with full-time teachers and staff is common, which helps ensure continuity for students and support for curriculum goals.

What is the difference between Part Time Teacher vs Full Time Teacher?

AspectPart Time TeacherFull Time Teacher
CredentialsTypically requires a teaching certification or relevant degreeSame as part time, often with additional requirements for full-time employment
Work EnvironmentPartially scheduled hours, often flexible, may work at multiple schoolsFull schedule, consistent hours, usually at a single institution
Employer & Industry UsageUsed in schools, tutoring centers, and online education platformsPrimarily in schools, educational institutions, and universities
Search & Comparison IntentPeople comparing flexible teaching roles with full-time positionsIndividuals seeking stable, full-time teaching employment

In summary, a Part Time Teacher typically works fewer hours with flexible scheduling, often in multiple settings, while a Full Time Teacher has a consistent schedule and full-time employment benefits. Both roles require similar credentials but differ mainly in hours, job stability, and work environment.

Can a part time teacher have a part-time job?

Yes, a part-time teacher can have a part-time job outside of their teaching responsibilities, provided it does not conflict with their work schedule or employment policies. Many part-time teachers work additional jobs to supplement their income, especially if their teaching hours are limited. However, they should ensure that their additional employment complies with any contractual or licensing requirements.

What are some good part-time jobs for part time teachers?

Part-time teachers can consider tutoring, which leverages their subject expertise and flexible scheduling, or working as educational assistants, camp instructors, or online course facilitators. These roles often require strong communication skills and may involve using digital tools or platforms for remote work.
