Job Description :
The California Post is seeking a Part-Time Sports Reporter (24 hours per week) to drive fast, high-volume coverage of sports across California and beyond. This role is focused on aggregation and real-time curation of breaking news, trending stories and viral moments. The ideal candidate thrives on speed and accuracy, has sharp editorial judgment, and can turn around clean, engaging stories quickly in the Post's signature voice.
Responsibilities:
  • Aggregate, curate, and publish sports stories from a variety of sources, including wire services, local outlets, national media, and social platforms
  • Monitor breaking news, trending topics, and viral moments to ensure timely and competitive coverage
  • Produce high-volume, quick-turn stories that are accurate, engaging, and optimized for digital audiences
  • File real-time updates during games, breaking news, and live events
  • Collaborate with editors to prioritize coverage based on audience demand and performance data
  • Use social media and digital tools for news gathering and story discovery
  • Work cooperatively as a team member under tight deadlines.
  • Attend games, events, or press opportunities as needed to support breaking news coverage

Requirements:
  • 1-3 years' experience in a digital newsroom environment, preferably in a high volume, aggregation or desk role
  • Strong news judgment and ability to quickly identify stories that will drive traffic and engagement
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to turn around clean copy under tight deadlines
  • Comfortable monitoring and sourcing from social media, news wires, and multiple outlets simultaneously
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms, basic photo editing, SEO, and analytics tools is a plus
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekday nights and on weekends during major sports events

Note: Candidates based in Los Angeles will be expected to be in-office three days per week, with occasional remote work for event coverage. This role is remote eligible for candidates based in San Francisco. Shift schedules are 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. or 2 p.m. - 10 p.m. PST (Subject to change depending on business needs).

Base Pay Range: $25.00 - $35.00 Hourly
