Intern - Electrostatics and Surface Physics Laboratory (ESPL)

LOCATION: Kennedy Space Center, Merritt Island, FL

JOB STATUS: Part-time

CERTIFICATION: N/A

TRAVEL: Limited; as needed

Must be US citizen

Astrion has an exciting opportunity for an Intern located at the Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island, FL. This part-time position, 10 hours per week, will perform a variety of operational tasks within the Electrostatics and Surface Physics Laboratory including operating vacuum and electrical equipment to support electrostatic testing. Support is expected for at least one semester with the possibility of being extended to two. Work will primarily be performed onsite at the Kennedy Space Center. Limited teleworking may be available at the discretion of management.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:

  • Enrollment in a degree program in science or engineering. Scientific disciplines include chemistry, physics, materials, corrosion, or related fields. Engineering disciplines include mechanical, electrical, aerospace, propulsion, structures, materials, corrosion, nondestructive evaluation, thermal, fluids, and chemical.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and customer interface skills required
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Must be able to coordinate work between multiple project disciplines.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects without missing deadlines or sacrificing accuracy.
  • Must be self-motivated, demonstrate initiative, and be able to work independently or with minimal supervision.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:

  • Competent in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook) and SharePoint.
  • Experience with LabView software

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operating vacuum and electrical equipment to support electrostatic testing
  • Data collection
  • Work on other projects as assigned.
