How much do part time sedation dentist jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 9, 2026, the average yearly pay for part time sedation dentist in the United States is $210,137.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $155,000.00 and $250,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How do part time sedation dentists typically collaborate with other dental team members during patient care?

Part-time sedation dentists work closely with dental assistants, hygienists, and sometimes anesthesiologists to ensure safe and effective procedures. Communication is key, as the dentist must coordinate pre-sedation assessments, monitor patient vitals during sedation, and guide support staff through recovery protocols. This collaborative approach helps maintain patient safety and smooth workflow, even in a part-time schedule. Building strong relationships with the team is essential to efficiently manage patient care and respond quickly to any complications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time sedation dentist?

To thrive as a Part Time Sedation Dentist, you need a dental degree (DDS or DMD), state licensure, and specialized training or certification in sedation dentistry. Familiarity with sedation techniques, patient monitoring systems, and emergency response protocols is crucial. Strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to reassure and comfort anxious patients are vital soft skills. These competencies ensure patient safety, effective dental care, and a positive treatment experience during sedation procedures.

What is the difference between Part Time Sedation Dentist vs General Dentist?

While both roles require dental licensure, a Part Time Sedation Dentist specializes in providing sedation and anesthesia, often working in specialized settings. A General Dentist offers comprehensive dental care without necessarily focusing on sedation. The choice depends on your interest in sedation procedures versus general dental practice.

  • Work hard and take pride in delivering exceptional care
  • Communicate with honesty, empathy, and professionalism
  • Value teamwork while also working independently with confidence
  • Pursue continual growth and clinical excellence
  • Bring a positive, solution-oriented attitude to the practice every day

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive general dentistry care including exams, preventive services, restorative treatment, crowns and bridges, cosmetic procedures, emergency care, and patient education
  • Diagnose and present treatment plans ethically and clearly
  • Utilize advanced technology to support accurate diagnostics and predictable outcomes
  • Collaborate closely with hygienists, assistants, specialists, and administrative team members
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and uphold infection control and safety standards
  • Deliver an exceptional patient experience focused on comfort, trust, and long-term relationships

Compensation & Benefits

  • $750 daily guarantee during the initial transition period
  • Production-based compensation up to 30–35% of collections
  • Established patient flow and productive schedules from day one

  • Health insurance contribution and additional benefits
  • 401(k) and retirement planning opportunities
  • Malpractice insurance

  • Relocation assistance available for qualified candidates
  • Flexible scheduling with no weekend requirements

Qualifications

  • Strong commitment to ethical, patient-centered care
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Commitment to continual growth and clinical excellence
