What does a part time school counselor do?

A part time school counselor works with students, staff, and parents to support students' academic, social, and emotional well-being, but typically on a reduced or flexible schedule compared to full-time counselors. They may conduct individual or group counseling sessions, provide crisis intervention, help students develop academic and career plans, and collaborate with teachers on student issues. Their responsibilities can vary depending on the school's needs, but the focus remains on helping students succeed and addressing barriers to learning. Part time counselors often balance their hours to accommodate meetings, student needs, and school events.

How does a part-time school counselor typically collaborate with teachers and administrators to support students?

Part-time school counselors play a vital role in student support by maintaining open communication with teachers and administrators. Despite working fewer hours, they often participate in regular team meetings, consult on academic or behavioral concerns, and help develop intervention plans. Effective collaboration requires clear scheduling and proactive outreach to ensure they are informed about student needs and school initiatives. Being flexible and building strong relationships with staff members allows part-time counselors to maximize their impact during their time on campus.
