Part-Time Registered Nurse - HVI Holding Area (UPMC Presbyterian)

UPMC Presbyterian, a Magnet designated hospital, is currently hiring a Part-Time Registered Nurse to the HVI Holding Area.
The HVI Holding area nurses are responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients before and after they receive procedures in the Heart Catheterization Lab, Electrophysiology Lab or Echocardiogram Lab. This role focuses on patient assessment, preparation, monitoring, education, recovery, and discharge while ensuring patient safety and high-quality care. Some of the life-saving procedures include, but are not limited too:
  • Cardiac catheterizations
  • Cardiac angioplasty and stent placement
  • Structural heart interventions (ASDs, PFOs, CTOs, Mitral Clips)
  • Pericardiocentesis
  • Right heart catheterizations
  • Pacemakers
  • Defibrilators
  • Cardiac Ablations
  • Left atrial appendage closures
  • Trans esophageal echocardiograms

Schedule:
  • Monday - Friday, daylight hours. Two 10-12 hours shifts per week. No holidays.

Responsibilities:
  • Precepts and mentors students and new hires; supports ongoing professional growth through feedback and evidence-based practice
  • Delivers holistic, patient- and family-centered care using the nursing process and Relationship-Based Care
  • Establishes individualized care goals and plans; applies strong critical-thinking and clinical judgment
  • Communicates effectively with the interdisciplinary team and maintains thorough, accurate documentation
  • Promotes patient safety, quality, and satisfaction aligned with organizational and professional standards
  • Builds a compassionate care environment and fosters a respectful, culturally aware workplace
  • Participates in quality improvement, shared governance, and unit or hospital-based initiatives
  • Serves as a professional role model through clinical expertise, teamwork, and peer review
  • Performs duties in accordance with system-wide competencies and other assigned responsibilities

Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience preferred. BSN preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience for the posted salary range.
  • ICU experience preferred.
  • They must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
  • Must obtain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on a Professional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluation to be promoted to this level.
  • Must maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on annual performance evaluation to maintain status. Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process.
  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity. Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within 30 days of hire
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 34

*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
