Description
The Town of Mammoth Lakes is looking for skilled Sports Officials to join our team this winter season as Ice Hockey Referees! Referees are responsible for officiating adult co-ed and youth ice hockey games. Receives immediate supervision from the Recreation Supervisor(s) and indirect supervision from the Recreation Manager.
Examples of Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Enforce the rules of play on the ice during games.
- Make calls and instruct players on the rules of games.
- Provide communication to and from coaches, participants, and spectators.
- Maintain a safe and positive playing environment.
- Complete required reports and records.
- Notify Recreation Supervisor of any problems or concerns regarding facilities, equipment, participants, coaches, or spectators.
Typical Qualifications
Certifications
Possession of, or have the ability to obtain prior to officiating, a USA Hockey Level 1 Official certification is required. The Town may facilitate training to obtain this certification.
Experience
A strong background in ice hockey and ability to competently ice skate is required. One year of referee experience, or experience in recreational or child-related activities and programs is preferred.
Education
Equivalent to completion of twelfth grade is required.

Compensation shown on this posting is the entire pay scale, in compliance with the California Equal Pay Act. However, please note that, "An employee will be appointed at the minimum rate for the class...Advancements in salary shall be based on a merit system...Step A (the minimum rate) will be the starting hiring rate...Employees shall be eligible for advancement to steps within the salary range upon satisfactory completion of an annual performance evaluation."
