This position is eligible for teleworking , which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective hire date.
Opening:
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is North America's largest transportation network, serving a population of 15.3 million people across a 5,000-square-mile travel area surrounding New York City, Long Island, southeastern New York State, and Connecticut. The MTA network comprises the nation's largest bus fleet and more subway and commuter rail cars than all other U.S. transit systems combined. MTA strives to provide a safe and reliable commute, excellent customer service, and rewarding opportunities.
Position Objective:
The Senior Accounting Analyst- Revenue Compliance is responsible for the preparation of various ticket sales analysis and revenue reports; developing audit techniques to capture various system data trends and unusual conditions; investigating causes of irregularities and errors, implementing corrective actions, and recommending improvements to current processes.
Responsibilities:
  • Prepare ticket sales analysis and monthly revenue reports to aid management in making sound decisions and policies.
  • Manage the on-board fares not paid or Commitment to Pay (CTP) system.
  • Develop audit techniques, including analysis of various system data trends and unusual conditions that are deviations from standards.
  • Investigate and determine causes of irregularities and errors, implement corrective actions, and recommend improvements to current processes.
  • Formulate, publish, and update policies and procedures regarding the collection and reporting of revenue by train service employees and ticket sellers, including revenue notices and manuals.
  • Assist in the testing and implementation of data updates to the train service employees' Ticket Issuing Machines (TIMs).
  • Assist the Station audit clerks in investigating any discrepancies in the ticket office machines (TOM) tour reports.
  • Interact extensively with various departments, including Information Technology, Transportation, MTA Police, Stations, Public Affairs, MTA Audit Services, as well as train service employees and ticket sellers regarding revenue questions and procedural matters.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of various system functionalities .
  • E nhancements, including migration from the existing on-board ticket sales (OBTS) and Central Support System (CSS) databases to the new on-board sales validation database (OSVD) and FareGo system.
  • Participate in performing train service employees' revenue orientation, field audit, and non -compliance trial process, as required.

Required Qualifications:
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Knowledge of accounting systems and procedures (such as PeopleSoft).
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, use of pivot tables and VLOOKUP's, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Must possess effective written, interpersonal,l and oral communications skills to be used across various departments and external contacts.
  • Must pay strong attention to detail and possess effective analytical and problem -solving skills.
  • Strong ability to take control of assigned tasks with limited supervision. Detail -oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Strong ability to prepare accurate work papers, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years with revenue or auditing experience with finance or similar experience, including database management and reporting, along with financial analysis and reconciliations.
