What are part-time remote software engineers?

Part-time remote software engineers are professionals who design, develop, and maintain software applications while working fewer hours than a standard full-time schedule, and do so from a location outside of the traditional office setting. They typically collaborate with teams using online tools and are responsible for coding, debugging, and contributing to software projects. This role offers flexibility in work hours and location, making it suitable for individuals seeking work-life balance or those with other commitments. Companies may hire part-time remote engineers to access a wider talent pool and reduce costs. The position usually requires strong programming skills, self-motivation, and effective communication.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Remote Software Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Remote Software Engineer, you need strong programming skills, knowledge of software development methodologies, and typically a degree in computer science or related experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, and collaboration tools like Slack or Jira is often required. Excellent time management, self-motivation, and clear virtual communication set outstanding candidates apart. These skills are crucial for delivering high-quality code, collaborating effectively from a distance, and meeting project goals in a flexible work environment.

How do part-time remote software engineers typically collaborate with full-time team members and manage communication across different time zones?

Part-time remote software engineers often work with teams that include full-time colleagues located in various regions. To ensure smooth collaboration, they usually rely on asynchronous communication tools like Slack, project management platforms such as Jira or Trello, and regularly scheduled video meetings. Clear documentation and proactive status updates are key to keeping everyone aligned. Flexibility and strong self-management skills help part-time engineers coordinate effectively despite differing schedules and time zones.

Cyber Platforms Software Engineer, Lead
The Opportunity:
We build software for large, fast-changing cyber problems where speed, scale, and complexity demand better tools. As a lead Software Engineer, you'll work across production systems used by operators, analysts, and cyber experts today, while also leading the design and development of new capabilities from early technical concept to deployed product.
On our team, you'll move across the stack: backend services, data systems, user-facing tools, automation, containers, and cloud infrastructure. You'll bring judgment to ambiguous problems, make practical technical tradeoffs, and shape how services, data flows, integrations, and user-facing tools fit together in real-world use. You will lead a small team of engineers, helping break down work, review technical approaches, and keep delivery aligned with the architecture.
This role is for engineers who want to build production software today, shape the architecture behind it, and help define the cyber capabilities that come next.
What You'll Work On:
  • Building software that helps operators make sense of fragmented, high-volume cyber data.
  • Making complex cyber workflows more reliable, observable, and repeatable at enterprise scale.
  • Turning new cyber capabilities into software designs, prototypes, and deployed products.
  • Applying AI, analytics, and decision-support techniques to reduce analyst burden and improve operator decision-making.
  • Developing orchestration and human-in-the-loop systems that help cyber teams coordinate, prioritize, and act.

Join us. The world can't wait.
You Have:
  • 6+ years of experience with software engineering, building, shipping, and supporting production software
  • 3+ years of experience building backend services, APIs, data workflows, or platform components with Python
  • 2+ years of experience building frontend applications with modern frontend frameworks
  • 2+ years of experience working with Docker or Kubernetes, containers, and reproducible development or deployment workflows
  • 2+ years of experience building, deploying, or operating software on AWS or a comparable cloud platform
  • 2+ years of experience designing production software systems, including service boundaries, data flows, APIs, integrations, and deployment patterns
  • 2+ years of experience leading technical delivery for a feature, service, product area, or engineering workstream, including breaking down work, coordinating with other engineers, and driving execution
  • Active TS/SCI clearance; willingness to take a polygraph exam
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Systems

Nice If You Have:
  • Experience building software for cyber operations, cyber defense, threat detection, security operations, or related environments
  • Experience working with cyber ranges, digital twins, adversary simulation, vulnerability research, reverse engineering, or detection engineering
  • Experience with operational data such as logs, telemetry, network data, endpoint data, or security events
  • Experience building AI-enabled, agentic, or LLM-based applications that were deployed to users or integrated into production systems
  • Experience supporting defense, intelligence, national security, R&D, or other mission-focused customers
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related technical field

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; TS/SCI clearance is required.
