What is a part time remote French translation job?

Part time remote French translation jobs involve translating written or spoken content from French to another language, or vice versa, while working remotely for a limited number of hours per week. These positions are ideal for bilingual individuals seeking flexible work arrangements, as translators can often set their hours and work from home or other locations. Typical tasks may include translating documents, websites, emails, or audio recordings, and sometimes providing localization services. Employers may require proficiency in both French and the target language, as well as strong attention to detail and cultural awareness.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time remote French translator?

To succeed as a Part Time Remote French Translator, you need fluency in both French and the target language, strong grammar skills, and a proven track record or relevant degree in translation or linguistics. Familiarity with translation management systems (TMS), CAT tools like SDL Trados, and quality assurance software is often required. Attention to detail, time management, and effective written communication are critical soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure accurate, timely translations and seamless collaboration with clients or teams in a remote work environment.

What are some common challenges faced by part time remote French translators, and how can they be managed?

Part-time remote French translators often encounter challenges such as managing multiple deadlines, maintaining consistent communication with clients across time zones, and ensuring translation accuracy without direct team support. Staying organized with project management tools, proactively clarifying client expectations, and using reliable translation resources can help overcome these obstacles. Building a professional network of fellow translators can also provide valuable support and feedback, making remote work more collaborative and less isolating.

We're looking for someone we can rely on as our final native-language check before French Canadian copy goes live.

What We're Looking For
  • Native French Canadian speaker
  • Translator experience is a plus, but not required
  • Excellent command of written French Canadian
  • Strong proofreading and editing skills
  • Ability to identify awkward, overly literal or unnatural translations
  • Strong attention to grammar, spelling, terminology and regional usage
  • Experience reviewing marketing, e-commerce or product copy preferred
  • Automotive knowledge is a plus, but not required
What You'll Review
Projects may include:
  • Amazon product listings and product descriptions
  • Automotive packaging copy
  • Website and e-commerce copy
  • Promotional and marketing materials
  • Product features, benefits and technical terminology
Job Type/Location
·        This is an ongoing freelance position paid on a monthly retainer (1099 Independent Contractor).
·        This is a remote, project-based role within the USA; however, candidates will need to be able to work with tight deadlines.
·        The number and length of projects will vary from month to month.
·        Must have unrestricted US work authorization.
When applying, please include:
  • A brief description of your proofreading/editing experience
  • Any relevant marketing, e-commerce or product-copy experience
Equal Opportunity Statement
