Position Summary/Job Duties:
Student Sales Representative & Brand Growth Lead
Skinmetal | Madison, Wisconsin
$15+ per hour + Commission | Flexible, part-time schedule | Primarily in-person
About the Role
Skin Metal, Inc. is a Madison-based startup building cancer prevention solutions for guys. We make products and skincare with sunscreen for guys who want fewer steps in their routine and want more time outside. We are looking for confident, creative UW-Madison students to serve as Brand Ambassadors and help us get our products into more hands throughout the university. We want you to provide education and also sell our amazing products.
This is not a traditional desk job or scripted sales internship. You will have the freedom to create your own sales opportunities and decide where Skinmetal can gain traction. This could mean building a partnership with a fraternity or student organization, working with a local bar or restaurant, selling through a family-owned business, attending community events, reaching out to retailers, or developing an entirely new idea. We care about results, initiative, and representing the brand professionally, not following one specific sales formula.
What You'll Do
Drive Brand Growth: You will own the strategy for bringing Skinmetal to life on campus. You aren't just selling; you're building partnerships with student orgs, local businesses, and other venues to get our product into the hands of your peers. Additional duties include:
  • Conducting in-person outreach and product demonstrations.
  • Developing creative sales ideas, partnerships, and local activations.
  • Helping turn initial conversations into product orders and ongoing accounts.
  • Tracking outreach, sales activity, and customer feedback.
  • Representing Skinmetal in a confident, professional, and approachable way.
  • Working directly with the company leadership team to test ideas and grow the brand.

Why This Role Is Different
Unlike a big corporate internship where you're a cog in the wheel, here you will see the immediate impact of your work. You'll leave this role with concrete metrics-such as "Increased local retail accounts by X%" or "Spearheaded three successful campus activations"-that will make your resume stand out to future recruiters.
In addition to receiving hands-on experience with several different aspects of the company including sales, business development, entrepreneurship, startup growth, retail and on-premise partnerships, brand activation, relationship building, and customer acquisition, you will have real ownership over how you approach the market. We are open to unconventional ideas, personal networks, and creative partnerships as long as they are professional, legal, and aligned with the Skinmetal brand.
Work Directly With Our CEO
The representative will have the opportunity to work with Dr. Wendy Sue Swanson, Skin Metal's founder and CEO. Wendy is a physician, entrepreneur, and nationally recognized health communicator with extensive experience in healthcare, media, consumer education, and brand building. This role offers rare access to the leadership of an early-stage Madison company and the opportunity to learn how a consumer brand grows from the inside.
Who We're Looking For
  • Student currently enrolled at UW-Madison or another nearby college.
  • Outgoing, self-motivated, and comfortable starting conversations.
  • Creative and willing to try new approaches.
  • Able to work independently without constant direction.
  • Organized, dependable, and professional in communication.
  • Interested in sales, marketing, entrepreneurship, consumer products, or startups.
  • Involvement in campus organizations, hospitality, retail, athletics, or the Madison community is a plus.
  • Bonus: Ability to use your experience to create & edit brand content

Previous sales experience is helpful but not required. We are more interested in confidence, initiative, and follow-through.
Compensation and Schedule
  • $15+ per hour, plus commissions. Up to 10 hours weekly to start. Open to expanding hours if desired and successful.
  • Flexible, part-time schedule.
  • Primarily in-person sales and business development work.
  • Some evening or weekend availability may be helpful depending on the opportunities pursued.
  • Madison-based position.
  • Opportunity to earn additional performance-based commission

Performance Commission
In addition to up to hourly wage, the Student Sales Representative will have the opportunity to earn performance-based commission when their sales exceed established revenue goals. This gives motivated representatives the ability to increase their earnings by creating and closing successful sales opportunities.
About Skinmetal (www.skinmetal.com)
Skinmetal is a Madison-built prevention company on a mission to modernize men's skincare and where sunscreen lives in their lives. We're ditching the complicated, multi-step routines in favor of high-performance sun protection that fits into an active, outdoor lifestyle. We are an early-stage consumer brand focused on building strong local partnerships and creating products that fit naturally into everyday life and we're looking for a student partner to help us lead this change in the Madison community.
