General Description
The Orange County Tax Administration Department has an opening for a GIS Technician II. The work involves complex technical work using GIS software for the preparation and illustration of cadastral assessment maps used in the preparation of a county-wide tax roll as well as preparing, transferring and maintaining real estate tax records and files, checking data for accuracy, assisting the public and other departments and agencies.
Work is performed under the general direction of the GIS and Land Records Manager with leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work, and in making decisions regarding customer needs and requests and conducting project assignments. Supervision over others is not required of this position. Position does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Geography or closely related field AND two (2) years of work experience in Geographical Information Systems which includes working with datasets and GIS layers, map preparation and editing and analyzing using ArcGIS software, OR
An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined above. A higher degree does not substitute for work experience.
Must be certified as a North Carolina State Property Mapper AND a NCPMA Property Mapper.
Certification as a paralegal or CMS (Cadastral Mapping Specialist) or ability to provide records showing candidate is actively working toward obtaining certification as a paralegal or CMS is preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
All offers of employment are conditioned upon successful clearance of a background check. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared.
