Summary of Job
REPORTS TO: 1. District Health Nurse - Hired by the Village of Whitefish Bay (Primary)
2. Building Administrator (Secondary)
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Part-time position, no full-time benefits.
Ten-month position aligned with the student attendance calendar. Employee may be required to participate in onboarding and limited pre school-year activities, including an evening event, prior to the official start of the school year.
This description has been prepared to assist in evaluating various classes of responsibilities, skills and working conditions. It indicates the kinds of tasks and levels of work difficulty required of positions given this classification. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Maintain high degree of confidentiality of District, school, student/family, and employee/staff information.
  2. Identify the health needs of students and personnel who come to the health room/health office.
  3. Administer first aid in accordance with District protocol and School Board Policies.
  4. Ability to respond to health situations during the school day.
  5. Ability to remain calm in elevated situations.
  6. Maintain communication with District Health Nurse regarding health needs of students.
  7. Familiarity and assist students with typical childhood ailments (such as diabetes, asthma, etc.).
  8. Maintain attendance records on all students. May assist in the processing of records of children entering or leaving the school.
  9. Telephone homes of students not in attendance and not reported to the office.
  10. Maintain self-control and handle communication, complaints, and request for information in an effective, positive, and efficient manner.
  11. Administer prescription and non-prescription drugs following School Board Policies and practice.
  12. Report communicable disease to the District Health Nurse and/or Building Administrator.
  13. Compile statistics and reports and complete necessary forms to satisfy requirements of the State Immunization Law.
  14. Assist with project completion as requested and directed by the District Health Nurse.
  15. Other duties as may be assigned by the District Health Nurse and school administration.

Qualifications
  • Experience and enjoyment working with children
  • High School Diploma or equivalent degree
  • Typing, computer, and other clerical skills, helpful
  • Computer knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Google
  • Must have the ability to be meticulous in monitoring numerous details and have the ability to organize, multi-task, prioritize work with minimal supervision
  • Flexibility with the ability to deal with frequent interruptions
  • Hold a positive attitude and the ability to establish and maintain positive rapport and communication with students, parents/guardians, and staff
  • Ability to work cooperatively with peers
