Job description

Job Title: Program Specialist
Salary: $15 per hour
Hours: up to 25 hours per week; non-exempt
Reports to: Program Director/Asst. School Based Club Director
Location: TBD
1. JOB PURPOSE
The Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County takes changing the lives of youth to heart. We go above and beyond to ensure that every youth that walks through our doors has a world class club experience that provides them with the opportunity for a GREAT FUTURE!
The primary functions of the Program Specialists are to provide direct service to our youth club members through activities based on Academic Success, Good Character and Healthy Lifestyles. They create a safe environment through positive guidance and discipline, as well as ensure a well-rounded and enriching experience for all club members. Program Specialists also carefully plan and implement program activities that promote fun, supportive relationships, opportunities and expectations, and recognition.
2. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
โ€ข Adopt the Formula for Impact and ensure that the Club is reaching the kids who need us the most, providing them with an outcome driven Club experience that is resulting in academic success, healthier lifestyles and better character and citizenship for our club members
โ€ข Effectively implement and administer Club programs, activities, and services that prepare youth for
success and create a club environment that facilitates achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:
including drop-in club members
โ€ข Provide effective club supervision to promote and stimulate program participation with the club members
โ€ข Act as a role model and provide guidance to all club members
โ€ข Monitor and evaluate programs, services, and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in the programs, and the appearance of the Club at all times
โ€ข Provide data collection and recording for program curriculum as needed
โ€ข Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff, including volunteers, members, and supervisors to receive and/or provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines, and instructions
โ€ข Maintain contact with external community groups, schools, members parents, and others to assist in resolving problems as needed
OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
โ€ข Actively participate in mandatory Club trainings and All Staff meetings
โ€ข Occasionally may be required to work special events promoted by the organization
โ€ข Support other projects as needed
โ€ข Completes any additional assignments as requested by the management staff
3. QUALIFICATIONS
BACKGROUND SCREENING
โ€ข Must submit to and pass Level 2 background screening through the Florida Department of Children & Families.
โ€ข Must pass pre-employment drug test
Must be 18 or older to work with Club Members
CERTIFICATIONS
โ€ข Current CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
โ€ข Previous work experience with youth, preferably in an after school or summer enrichment program.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE
โ€ข Report to scheduled shift consistently and on time.
โ€ข Follow policies, procedures and rules of the organization.
โ€ข Serve as a role model and demonstrate, encourage and offer direction in fairness, consistency, attentiveness, ability to work with others, appropriate dress and appearance, and effective conflict resolution
โ€ข Treat all club members, parents/guardians, co-workers, supervisors and people in the community with respect and dignity.
โ€ข Maintain confidentiality of those we serve.
โ€ข Communicate to immediate supervisor any pertinent contact from family, school, or significant others.
โ€ข Follow policies and procedures in responding to emergencies and/or safety issues.
โ€ข Promote and participate in open and effective communication and support with the team.
โ€ข Maintain high program standards.
TRAVEL
Some travel may be required for training and/or other business purposes.
4. WORKING CONDITIONS
Our offices, neighborhood clubhouses and school-based clubs are fast-paced work environments and are strategically located in areas of St. Lucie County where youth need us most. Based on the organization's needs, flexibility to work different schedules and work in different locations in St. Lucie County is required due to changing business demands. General office conditions is the standard work environment (standing, sitting, and walking). 5. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
โ€ข The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, stooping/kneeling, reaching with hands and arms, and finger dexterity.
โ€ข This position requires extended talking, listening, sitting, walking, and standing; computer viewing, and keyboard entry. Regularly lifting up to 25 pounds.
โ€ข Daily operation of personal motor vehicle relevant to carrying out job duties is required for this position.
โ€ข Ability to think strategically and ability to sit for more than four hours per day.
